A new low in the lounge

A couple of months ago they didn't have any margarine out. Their story was to reduce plastic usage. They were happy to provide on request.

They could just put out a large tub of margarine and solve that problem with ease.
 
Tubs work for the mainstream use (though, are usually messy because people...) but ideally they have both tubs in the buffet but also individual little ones on request. The trick is to avoid cross-contamination which comes from people plastering the spread directly on their wheat bread and then the next one in line who's gluten intolerant will be left without. The same with everything: to overcome the cross-contamination, it's great whenever the lounges (and any catering) can provide also individual clean portions, when needed.

They had jars of other spreads/condiments so that issue is one they already have. Just give me margarine! 🙂

In the PER J lounge and further cost cutting means margarine is no longer available. Seems like a pretty basic staple to me. I checked, this isn't a case of they ran out either.

Not that I am, but what do they expect dairy intolerant folks to do?

Coleslaw from Colesworth like another airline. Costs $2 for the whole box during clearance and keeps the lounge customers happy. Also counnts as real "food" as well as a "meal" as well as being able to pass off as a "delicacy." Win-win for both the company and the pax and keeps everyone happy. Also can serve the extra amount purchased as airplane meals so can save on cost by bulk buying. Financial win and sustainable in the long term 🤣 🤣

Probably not but maybe the sugar in the jam kills the gremlins? But. There's actually jam in a jar??

What gremlins exactly are you worried about though? You take a clean knife, stick it in the margarine put some on your bread on move on. I'm just hoping someone isn't first sticking the knife in their mouth lol. I'd also suggest bacteria is more likely to multiply in a high sugar environment.

Not sure if it was jam or some other spread, but there were jars with spreads.

Emphasis on clean. I've seen horrible things happen at buffet stations and then there are kids around. I've seen people licking spoons. Then dump it. Pick that up unknowingly and use it?

Sugar is a preservative. Thats why there's so much in sweet spreads.

And that's the thing. You're assuming everyone acts to the same standards as you.

Not wanting to rehash the various "debates" about what is and isn't acceptable food handling done to death in the other liunge thread, this I guess is why they wouldn't do this far too easily contaminated imo

It could be a lot worse - they could have had no butter. Margarine is evil IMHO
If anyone remembers the ad on tv about 20 years ago… little girl with her mother in the supermarket…

My point is, if it's good enough for other spreads, just provide a big tub of margarine too. Either communal spreads are ok in the lounge or they're not.
