A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Changing topic, but as another "newbie" to AA, I am a bit confused. I was booking internal flights within the US and on the Australian AA site, prices seemed to double suddenly. By going to Matrix and the US AA site, I got the original prices. When I rang the AA line, the person was not much help and in the end suggested I book through the US site, which I did. Checked again today and the Aus prices are much higher (even allowing for the exchange rate) Is this a temporary glitch, or is it always better to book internal US flights on the US website?

It is always best to book with the US AA.com site.

When i first looked, the Aus site was slightly cheaper, but then the fares doubled (an exact doubling, i kept checking that I had the correct number of passengers!) I tried deleting cookies and using a different computer, but still had the double prices. US site behaved though, so used that
Almost always ... There has been the odd occasion when the Oz site was better.

I generally check both ...

The .au site doesn't seem to have access to the same range of discount fares you'll find on the .com site. That, plus it's often the case that many flight connections are excluded on the .au

As serfty says - check both... but 9 times out of 10 the American site is the best... for fares, routings and timings.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I agree with Serfty. The AU site does occasionally have a better price. Also on one occasion was able to get a better routing that was not offerred on the US site. Was SEA-ORD.On the Australian site a direct codeshare on Alaska. On the US site I could only get SEA-PDX-DFW-ORD.

Of course some of us search for those indirect routings to rack up the SCs. :)

Yes lol that's something I've learnt on this site that I probably would have never learnt elsewhere.
Why fly direct when you can connect :p

At least when the prices are reasonably comparable. That happens more in the USA than in Australia.

Happy wandering (to the lowest priced fares)

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but anyway...

I have two upcoming award bookings for travel on QF that I booked with AAdvantage miles. On one of the bookings, my QFF number has somehow attached itself, meaning I can pick better seats based on my QF status. (In QF MMB, both my AA and QF numbers now appear - never seen that before.) Not complaining. ;) But only the AA number appears on my other booking.

Now, I don't know what (if anything) I did to get the QFF number attached. But I sure would like to know, so that I can add it to the second booking! Does anyone know what might have happened?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Hi MattG - had the exact same thing happen 48 hours ago. I was logged into QFF at the time and possibly all the details matched (ie name, DOB, email) when I bought the booking up? Other than that I have no idea!

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I had mine changed at check-in for one. Called reservations for the other. Amazing how much further forward QF status will open seats.

It's not as if you are going to get miles/status points from either AA or QF for the flight.

It would be interesting if pulling up the AA award reservation with your QF account adds the data automatically.

Happy wandering

I thought that might of been the case - but nothing happened when I logged into the other booking.

The only other thing I can think of is that I entered passport information into the booking where both numbers came up. (The other booking is domestic only so can't do that.)

I have found with awards it takes some effort to get your QFF number in on booking when the travel is being made for yourself using miles from your own AAdvantage account as it defaults online to your AAdvantage account and it can't easily be edited.

If booking for someone else or using another account (e.g. SWMBO's) you have the option to enter the PAX's frequent flyer information for AA or an AA partner such as Qantas.

With the former situation, once booked it takes a call to AAdvantage to fix (or maybe "AY.com MYB" in some cases).

I've tried logging on to AY MMB but it's not recognising my booking and I can't log in. Am I doing something wrong?

You may need the QF PNR rather than the AA one. To get that put the AA record locator into the QF website and it will spit out the QF PNR

Cheers. Was able to log on to AY MMB using QF PNR. But unfortunately the AY website wouldn't let me change the FF number in the booking. (Nor would the RJ website.)
