This might be a good offer for those who intend flying to the USA, and using AA as domestic carrier as you then have access to the AA lounge.

And now wait for the onslaught of posts about anytime access and overcrowding.
So you mean the lounges are not overcrowded? I cannot believe a company rep from Qantas would say the lounges are overcrowded therefore we are removing Anytime access from Platinums and it was not actually true. Do you?

Nope - the lounges are still overcrowded (on occasions), but not so much as they used to be when those pesky WPs were rorting the system.

I'd love to see the numbers on that. Personally, have not been able to discern any difference in the level of overcrowding, but then again, what do I know.

Another quick money spinner to help the bottom line... US airlines seem to sell off cheap miles, Qantas selling off cheap lounge access... it costs them nothing more than maybe some extra food/drink per person, rest are pretty fixed costs they have, so probably good profit from each new customer...

WP = $0 profit

Given the any time access issue was a WP only issue and this is a QP sale then any additional QP members have no impact on over crowding in the J lounge.

I've been particularly slow this week; just remembered that anytime access was technically only for the QP. So while this sale doesn't impact J lounge crowds, anytime access was about QP crowds.

Except they didn't just stop us accessing the J lounge, they stopped us accessing any lounge. If the "over-crowding" was limited to the J lounges then they could have easily just relegated WPs to the QP.

See above comment. Anytime access was only supposed to be for the QP, hence J lounge shouldn't come into it, despite the common experience of being able to use the J lounge.

I actually thought that was the case, but wasn't 100% certain.

But plenty of people here have said that they could use the J lounge anyway regardless of the technical rules. They could've tried enforcing their rules, but that's another story.

Whether or not I think they're overcrowded isn't relevant.

I was just postulating that this thread would quickly descend into discussion about overcrowding. It kind of did.

You know, the whole thing about anytime access removal? It's done. That ship has sailed and no amount of complaining about it on AFF is going to bring it back (sure, it's good to vent sometimes).

It's clear that the overcrowding justification QF gave was either a) mostly wrong, b) mostly lies, c) a bit of both.

It's also clear that QFs tactic to deal with the anytime access fallout is just to say nothing and let the issue slowly die. Which is basically what has happened.

So, what's my point? I've just accepted that this is the way they operate.

They'll make vague and ill-defined justifications for QFF program changes and they'll only engage us on the forums when it suits them.

I don't see any point in getting all up in arms about "enhancements" any more. QF has killed my sense of loyalty to their brand so I'll just jump ship from the QFF program if/when it suits me. There's no sense in over-thinking it. Loyalty is a two-way street. While there's still decent traffic going in both directions, I'll stay. Otherwise, I'm out. Simple.

FWIW I do think the MEL QC lounge is overcrowded sometimes.

Pot = Kettle = Black. You raised it in the very first reply, what did you expect?

That concisely and accurately sums up the situation. Given this sale is designed to attract more QC members, the issue of overcrowding was naturally going to crop up. Inevitably, someone was going to make a comment (serious, sarcastic or otherwise) about Anytime Access - to vent. Big deal.

FWIW I do think the MEL QC lounge is overcrowded sometimes.

Agree - even the J lounge can be standing room only at times. I'm not particularly concerned about the sale, but it would be nice if they addressed the overcrowding in a meaningful manner. I would prefer that they tried to address the size / facilities of the lounges first, though I imagine something else may have to give if they wish to continue to offer the 'experience' they are marketing (no one wants to be paying even $370 to stand around eating stale cold cuts a handful of times a year).

Also, I know someone is inevitably going to raise the question of who is supposed to pay for it. I would have thought it goes without saying that the point of improving facilities is to attract future business / loyalty, the benefits of which are supposed to deliver a return on that investment (as AJ keeps reminding us to the detriment of QFi). Clearly QF Domestic is performing well, but is under increasing threat from VA; I can't claim to know how the numbers stack up, but I would imagine it reasonable to think that improved facilities are but one of many ways QF Domestic can protect its future revenues from being taken by a belligerent VA.

Well I took up this offer and joined the Qantas Club so I guess that means an extra person in the lounge contributing to the troublesome overcrowding ;)

Is this anything more than a response to the recent DJ Lounge membership announcements?

Reactive- much?

Actually the way it worked for me when the business lounged first opened was I was using anytime access to access the Qantas Lounge and I was encouraged to go into the business lounge by reception. I was acually told that Platinums had unofficial anytime access to Business Lounges.

And then one day it was taken away because Platinums were the cause of overcrowding only for Qantas to have 2 big discounted sales in <12 months for the Qantas Club membership.

I am patiently waiting for the next enhancement where Golds and possibly Platinums lose complimentary Qantas Club membership. Well at least for domestic only itineraries....

AH.

Someone admitting to being part of the problem :!:  :D

Me too !!! Just signed up !!! +1 to add to the crowd ...

but just on a side note ... it will be interesting to see what real improvements - the little competition will bring about.
