Re: 5xbonus at BP 'til 31Dec2011[Ext.to 31Mar2012] Must register your card.

Whilst it has been a nightmare for my back office staff, we were able to purchase $468k worth of cards over the past 6 months. Base points were earnt at 1:1 as I have long since exceeded my 1:1.5 earn cap.

With a monthly fuel spend average of $750k, the card purchases represented a small percentage of my BP spend for the period. For once it was nice to get an earn on this. Despite numerous discussions between my BP and Amex account managers, they have not sorted a workable long term solution which allows me to pay fuel bills via my American Express card, with monthly direct debits the only option.

The nightmare came from processing and reconciling cards, and the inherent risk of supplying drivers with cards, which is much like giving cash advances out. A couple of return domestic J trip 'rewards' quickly fixed any grumbles my admin girls had.

My original plan had been to make payments on my Amex over the phone as drivers fueled up around the country. This is common practice in the industry, especially amongst those who have had their fuel accounts suspended or canned. A quick call from the console operator and the payment is processed.

This lasted two days. The significant other, who is used to the barage of late night emergency calls (occupational hazard), drew the line at yet another point/mile related scheme. Whilst she begrudgingly accepts my "hobby", she has been the beneficiary of numerous J/F rewards and listened to more theories and plots to uncover the holy grail of points earning than sorround the JFK tragedy, this attempt was met with a stern shaking of the head.

Had a friendly owner operated BP run my orders in lots of $50k, which made the process much simpler. Provided a few select operators with the cards, and the points mounted up. Had aimed for 2 million points from the exercise, but we typically exceeded our target.

Now there will be some knockers who will say this is not the purpose of the promo, and that it may deter future offers etc etc. I have done exactly as others have been reporting. It is simply a question of scale. The points have posted and all is good.

Well done on another of your amazing Point Runs

That's an amazing effort - well done :D

That is thoroughly mind blowing melbourne rebel. Enjoy the premium seats well into the future ;)

To quote John Elliot "Pigs &&&&" nice work to you MR. I am chuckling just thinking about using the scheme to that magnitude. :D

Wouldn't giving free flights to an employee actually be a Fringe Benefit and therefore needs to be accounted for; especially as it is in lieu of extra wages for increased work duties?

That's awesome. Can't imagine how long $50k worth of card took to process. Took $300 gift cards 25 mins and 12 customers in between the wait. I would've bought more but didn't want to risk the cards not working.

In that kind of commercial transaction, I would suspect that either one employee was at a terminal until they finished it, or it was done in downtime between serving customers, so generally in the graveyard shift.

Exactly. Took around five minutes per pick up. The owner had everything ready for collection and was a simple swipe away. He even rang me prior to the fifth transaction and prompted me that it was time to top up again!

Was reviewing the last months' BP transactions and have noticed they have shortchanged me bonus points on one transaction late last month.

29/03/2012
BP STAFFORD
$72.00
72
286
358
BP Bonus Points
-
250
Platinum Credit Card Bonus Points
-
36

IIRC, that bolded number should show 360 not 250...

Whereas, my last giftcard purchase was spot on (not that I understand how the rounding happened for my CC points, it was an even number):

30/03/2012
BP EXPRESS HAMILTON
$500.00
500
2,748
3,248
Platinum Credit Card Bonus Points
-
248
BP Bonus Points
-
2,500

Now I can't go back prior to 12 Jan to review the transactions, but I was checking them pretty closely and don't recall any other ones they got any wrong (apart from rounding, ocassionally there was one +- 5 which I'm not going to quibble over).

Wished I'd kept a spreadshet now to see how many points I obtained over the course of the 5 months of this promo (for me), suppose with a little backtracking in my CC receipts I can calculate it roughly. Nowhere near as good as melbourne rebel, but not bad for my little operation.

Nobody here on AFF will ever knock you for this. We are all in the same game I guess ;) We all envy the points earnt and wish we could be in your position. However if you ever need a nominee for SQ redemptions, my first name is Alan and my last name is Legal :D

Just used the first of my gift cards - trialled a $50 one which two thirds filled my tank. Like normal, swiped the GC through the reader (like one would a CC) and about 10 seconds later the comforting word "Approved" with the big tick appeared. No receipt or tax invoice required. Easy...

Continue to use my cards and loving the ease of transactions...onto my $100 cards now.

Although I think the girl at the usual BP where I fill-up (not one where I bought any of my cards), is beginning to wonder what happened to my CC and how I have all these gift cards...but she hasn't said anything yet

The swipe is easy until you're down to the last $50 or something and your petrol bill is above that, that's when it becomes a stupid nightmare.

I spent $50.01 and the gift card refused to work (declined) and the guy had to reduce the cost by 1 cent.

You can't also use the gift card and then top up the shortage by any other means other than cash.

I don't get that. I've managed to use a combination of gift cards + credit, gift cards + other gift cards, gift cards + cash all for the one transaction. This has been at multiple stores here in Victoria.

Same thing happened to me last nite. I had exactly $35 left on the card. Despite my best efforts, pump stopped at $35.01:evil:. Card rejected when trying to pay. Explained to attendant...he put $0.05 credit onto the card, and then processed payment. I was about to offer my AMEX for payemnt of $0.01:D

Yep same here

Depends who you get!

If you are unsure what is left on the card, put through $1 then get the balance then process the rest

There are these buttons on the pump that have dollar values, no good?
