I wonder if the store actually makes anything out of a gift card sale ?

BP will be on a nice little earner from lost, out of date, and unused balances. Plus they have use of your money earning interest for them, rather than you.

Use of Giftcards by companies has ballooned in recent years.....so that can only mean that they are profitable for companies.

re: 5xbonus at BP 'til 31Dec2011[Ext.to 31Mar2012] Must register your card.

Well, my final week tally was a good one (for me):

26/12/2011
BP STAPYLTON STAPYLTON QLD
$74.00
74
407
481
BP Bonus Points
-
370
Platinum Credit Card Bonus Points
-
37

31/12/2011
BP EXPRESS ASHGROVE ASHGROVE QLD
$262.01
262
1,441
1,703
BP Bonus Points
-
1,310
Platinum Credit Card Bonus Points
-
131

They need to scan it....and then swipe it through the magnetic card reader to put the credit onto each card.

However, I bought $1000 worth on 30th and it only showed up today the 2nd (though correctly back dated to the 30th). So yours may have just been slow like mine if she did do it correctly.
That's it :!: - I remember her scanning it, but I'm sure she didn't swipe it through the magnetic card reader - which I recall being done in the other BP gift card purchases that I did. I also recall the 2nd strip of paper with the activation receipts on the other purchases. I think I'll go there on the way home and ask if there is any credit on it, then hit then up.

I am currently "in discussions" with a BP for a $50 card that was not activated correctly. The guy was fumbling for ages and I thought he did it, but the card has no credit. After that one, I have kept all the receipts, both for the purchase of the cards, and more importantly the activation receipts for them. They are telling me I picked up a card off the shelf and it was never activated and they never took the $$ from me. As it was the only thing I purchased on the day I rang Amex and disputed the charge, see what happens from there!
They may try the same with me - thankfully I have the latest CC receipt in my wallet. Better to go and fix it up now, the longer it takes, the more difficult it becomes.

Thanks for the informative posts on the issue, lovestotravel.

Must admit I didn't immediately notice the difference! I made a point of asking for the activation receipt each time as there was a young lady working her "first day" & even though she was reading from the folder it seemed as though she missed a step or 2. In the end one of the other staff had to cancel & redo the activation as the rookie had actually cashed out the credit.

This offer would still seem to be in effect... it's still on the Amex MR page & my bonus points from 1/1/12 came through.

Amex has often extended bonus periods in the past.

However T&C on the website still say: Offer commences 1 October 2011 and ends 31 December 2011.

So they have either forgotten to update the T&C, or have omitted to turn the promo off....

Hopefully they extend it!

I switched from earning QFF at Woolworths petrol to earning MR from BP, much prefer the overall BP service.

Plus I pass 4 of them to/from work each day :D

Standard for Amex to leave promos up for months after they end

I have one gift card that I'm worried about. Major kerfuffle when purchasing 2 staff members involved, going through the steps but mo activation receipt. I've concluded it will be a charge back situation if it doesn't work regardless of whatever receipt I have, as they can never be sure if I have just grabbed a new card.

Not at all standard for them to not alter the t&c.

Promos are often extended including sign on boni, but Amex then alters the t&c.

So something is wrong here at present.

Medhead, regarding the gift card that you don't think is properly activated, would chargeback be the best way to go?
I presume if you chargeback, the debit to your Amex account will be reversed, as will the Amex points and bonus points you earned.
The alternative of getting BP to correctly validate the card should ensure you keep the points. :D

Definitely not like AMEX to let promos run over and not change T&C's............ so I called them today and guess what - it has been extended until March!! But the trick is you need to re-register, so make sure you call up before you spend any more!

Thanks pointsjunkie, appreciate you posting that gem (as I toddle off to the Amex website, ;):D).

Thank you

I've tried to re-register using that link but it says I'm already registered. Luckily I haven't rushed out and bought a whole heap of gift cards as I was suspecting Amex will more than likely continue this offer.

Yes, it looks like a phone call is in order, as stated by pointsjunkie:

{bolding my idea}

It appears they haven't re-coded the promo code with the entended date, as I got:
You have already registered for this bonus. No further action is required

Thankfully, I have another need to call them...

Not sure if it makes a difference but I have the Qantas Card, rather than a Membership Rewards Card, so the process might be a bit different for me, you guys might not need to register again? But definitely worth a call to them just to be sure :) Or maybe spent a few $$ at BP tomorrow to test if it's still active for your Card. Obviously this promo was a nice big success for BP and AMEX for it to be extended, woohoo! :D

I just foresee an argument about whether I'm ripping them off, even with the receipts. Chargeback avoids that problem. Maybe I should try that card

Awesome news, back to BP for another 3 months :)

And I just did my first fill at Woolworths today since I got my Amex a couple of months ago ...

re: 5xbonus at BP 'til 31Dec2011[Ext.to 31Mar2012] Must register your card.

Good news all , just rang AMEX to re-register for the BP promo and was told it is going through to June 30 2012 .
Also , it had updated my details automatically to take me through till then .
Happy days ...... I scored an extra 40k points to end of Dec. because i just happen to run my company fuel account with a certain BP so things are looking even better now !!
The F lounge is fun isnt it !!
