In my most recent stays at IHG hotels, I've been offered 500 points per day if I opt-out of receiving housekeeping. There's a sign to hang on the door the previous night if you wish to opt out.

Do/would you take the points?

I'd take the points in a heartbeat. I usually just want the rubbish bin emptied and often tell the housekeeping staff that if they empty the bin I'll consider the whole place done.

They are very happy to do it and have another room marked off as cleaned.

No, I don't think I would take it. When I stay away I treat it as something special. I can crawl into an unmade bed and trip over towels strewn around the bathroom at home. (not suggesting this is how I live:eek:). When I get back to the hotel room after sightseeing or a day of business I want to walk into my room and see the shower with new soap and shampoo, fresh towels etc, the beds made preferably already turned down with a chocolate on the pillow (oh wait...that was years ago) I want to see coffee cups cleaned and the bench wiped down and the replacement bottle of water etc. The floors maybe vacumed from where I spilt the peanuts which were stolen from the mini bar. o_O
No, 500 points don't cut it with me

I’d take the points. I like to have my own space without it being ‘invaded’ everyday.

I like having my bed made (make my own bed every day) so I prefer having the room serviced but I dont get too upset if the room isnt done.

I wouldnt purposely take 500 points but if they dont clean the room, I would be asking for it.

When I stay solo I don’t need my room to be cleaned every day so I’ll take the points, at least every other day but going on holiday with family is different story and I’d prefer the to have the room cleaned daily.

I take it 99% of the time. Just call down to ask for extra towels if needed. Primarily do so for environmental reasons. One catch for me though (and this is especially true outside of AU) ...many workers rely on a shift/amount of work to be there ...if we all chose this they will get less hours. In Canada recently a bunch of hotel cleaners staged strikes because of this very uncertainty.

Yes, I prefer this too. Just come in, make the bed and that's it. No need to change sheets or towels, vacuum the floor, clean the bathroom etc. Just make my bed! I don't know why it has to be so binary (all or nothing).

I would take it but didn't notice a Holiday Inn in Sydney offering that service. Rydges offer $10 of food, and I take that. Somnetimes I leave stuff lying around the desk, papers, laptops etc. and would rather people didn't enter.

If hung properly tpowels will dry for next day. But would only do this for say a couple of days at most.

Used to take points with SPG.Not offered at Marriott and IHG that I have stayed at recently.

Well offered it at the IC Double Bay and I took it.No brainer when upgraded to a suite with 2 bathrooms.

Take the points? No way.

They can do the room while I'm out.

Edit: What's the value of 500 points? $2.50? 😀

Well - I prefer not to have anyone in my room while I'm out - I'm very tidy and don't mind re-using towels etc - BUT I do like the coffee and complimentary water replenished but I usually just ask housekeeping staff for these when I see their carts in the hallways. The additional points an/or discount (e.g $5 pd) are not a factor to me. I totally hate "turndown" service which usually shows up at the most inconvenient time (like when you're showering for dinner) - when they do knock at the door - I just ask for the water and chocolates.

After watching Maria the housekeeper pick up all my papers on the desk and then wipe it down and place the papers back on the wet desk, I only take the DND sign off every 3 days or so after I have cleared the desk. I have enough towels to cover that and pulling the blankets up is not hard. I too am very neat otherwise.
