QF to return to LHR via SIN.

QF9/10 MEL_DXB to Frankfurt and return

A380 orders brought forward to enable MEL-HKG and SYD HKG daily A380 Flights.

WHAT ........ Come on ......it happens all over the world day in day out (it's not right) but gee AJ isn't Robinson Caruso in that race

That really doesn't change much in terms of time the A380 spends sitting on the ground, just moves it to MEL instead of LHR. Another option would be to change 9/10 to the original timings of QF 29/30. Leave MEL at midnight arrive into LHR mid afternoon. And QF 10 leaves mid morning from LHR (leaving at 1015 perhaps, to facilitate onwards connections at MEL). To do this aircraft would have to cycle through QF1->QF10->QF9->QF2. Reduces the A380's needed from 6 to 5.

I think that QF10 current heads out as QF93 so it will be interesting to see what happens next.
 
I was hoping AJ would end his conference with "you won't have Joyce to kick around any more because, gentlemen, this is my last press conference", but the way he dodged the question about his future makes me think it can't be too far away.

Maybe let him undertake the job cuts and then leave by the end of the year in a face saving manner citing the reductions in costs he has achieved.

I agree that Joyce's response was less than convincing that he's hanging around. He seemed to give an almost cursory response before moving on to the next part of the question.

Probably a bit more complicated than that. :). If you are deemed an "independent contractor" then the contractor is paid a rate and looks after their own tax and super - thus "self employed". However there is a bit of a gray area where a company might be liable for super etc if the person is viewed as not independent. I would imagine that Qantas would hire contractors via Labour Hire firms, keeping the necessary distance and keeping costs down rather than getting individual contractors directly.
 
We have got 6 tickets booked on QF 77/78 for my dad's 70th birthday end of July.

Not particularly thrilled with the option of flying J*, or massively out of the way via the East Coast or HK for a long weekend and unfortunately my parents had a bad experience with MH last year and have vowed not to fly them again. What do you reckon the likelihood QF will let us fly CX and stay in HK for the length of our trip?
 
It looks like QF9 retiming is happening sometime in April/May. Going from a 16:15 departure from LHR and into London at 05:10 to a 19:15 departure and arrival into LHR at 10.05. QF 10 seems to have the same 10.15 depature time from LHR.

That re-timing was due to runway works in Dubai (announced last month), those timings could become the norm though.....
 
I am so sick of people saying that QFi abandoned PER as if it was something in the books of a break up or something. If there were enough people travelling on those services they wouldn't have been cut. Clearly PER couldn't sustain the service so it was cut. I'm happy that QF is concentrating on where they can MAKE MONEY and not where AFF members think they should fly. Flying through SIN or HKG to LHR? Pointless, stupid! They've spent millions moving to DXB and they won't make the move back to Asia when they would arguably lose traffic on the Asia - London leg. I am yet to see one piece of actual evidence that would support moving 50% of the QFi traffic to Europe to a port thousands of kilometres away. The only thing seems to be this idea that DXB is a) immoral b) a bad place to transit or c) you hate EK. None of these apply! You don't have to leave the airport.

Sad, that's the end of MEL-xDXB-LHR with a change to QF1 in DXB for more F lounge time and 40 more SCs :(

Yeah, speak for yourself.

I have been harassed countless times in the airport at Dubai. By security and by other travellers. It is not a nice place to transit for me as a solo female traveller. Hence me actively avoiding it whenever possible.

At Adelaide Airport about 100 Qantas baggage handlers and 150 check-in and ground staff have been asked to consider voluntary rendundancies.

QF clearly markets itself as The spirit of Australia. Last time I checked, both Adelaide and Perth were part of Australia. It is funny that other carriers seem to make PER and ADL work, yet QF can't. Perhaps they should change their (misleading) slogan to the Spirit of Anywhere east of Melbourne.

Perhaps it is the disdain that QF treated these two Centres with created its demise with the services. A 00:50 and a 4:55 arrival into PER doesn't suit everyone, nor were the services particularly well timed, or made connections easy. It is almost as if they deliberately timed these services to fail.
 
Slide 30 of the Investor Presentation suggests there's going to be a bigger focus on BNE (I'd assume international):

Comparing the ASA to the Cash fare, my 488K points are getting me the equivalent of ... wait for it ... $3,500. Based on that I'd say QF make more money from ASAs (and definitely from classic awards) that they do from selling gift vouchers.

At any rate, I assumed the bigger issues was a limit on the amount of "family" transfers you can do a year :p

As one of the potential 5000 staff to go, I just want to say this morning has been quite full on – I think the note to mention is no one would have got the sack today, they are just saying to each level they will inform people in time. So it will be drawn out even longer.

But all I will say is most of us are shocked Joyce isn’t putting his hand up – he sacks 5000 people and yet he keeps his job. A lot of the factors the airline can control are the responsibility of the board and CEO – they have both failed and yet the workers are the ones that suffer. The press conference was embarrassing – great question from Ross Greenwood about Joyce’s future (swatted away nicely) and the one about the venue for the press conference was even better. And the lack of answers given was really just showing how poorly we as an airline are managed right now – and yet they keep their jobs.

While not trying to start a fight here, if Joyce goes, they still need someone else to replace him and takeover his job, but the 5000 staff to go will be permanent, they're not replacing them with 5000 more staff.

No it doesnt, the announcement was an HOUR before the speech!

Ahh yes, little dip for the release and big dip when he starts talking. So essentially no faith in the person, despite the info already being out there.
