2025 travel plans

I have a trip to Turkiye booked for Feb, I always like a winter holiday that time of year to escape the heat here.

Looking at probably the Solomons for birding around May and maybe the Moluccas in Indonesia in Sept/Oct-ish.
Turkiye was awsome as usual, enjoyed the snow in Istanbul!

Change of plans due to wanting to use up my QF points. We are now going to Dili, Timor Leste because the flights were available in June and we don't need any domestic flights. Solomons domestic flights are too expensive, can wait until next year.

Moluccas still projected for Sept or Oct, via CGK to Ambon, Buru, Seram and Saumlaki.

We have added another trip in mid July thanks to life miles once more having availability on TG. So SYD-BKK TG J awards. No return availsbility.
So have booked SQ via VA BKK-SIN-DRW as no suitable dates for BNE, SYD or MEL.

DRW no problem as we were going to do a road trip to TSV in mid July so this takes it. place.

Jan: Crash Mr Katie's annual boy's trip in ADL, but only for the weekend
Mar: W/end with Mr Katie in AL for AFF dinner (delayed by Alfie and a parent weekend instead)

May: Usually have a conference in the US, but not sure it'll be held next year
July/August: Europe, going on a 7 day Rhine cruise with my Mum from AMS to Basel. Knitting theme. Yet to arrange everything other than the cruise. Probably a couple of days in Essen after the cruise.
Oct: expect a trip to the US or maybe Germany in Nov for a conference

At some point a nice trip with Mr Katie to celebrate 25 years of being hitched.
Updates:
April: Long weekend in Winton for the town's 150th birthday.
April: Easter in Melbourne.
May: Going to a different conference in Washington DC. Flying un-upgradeable Y the whole way.
May/June: Family weekend in Wellington because I thought I had magic vouchers, but we don't. Mr Katie wants to keep WP.
June: Overnighter in MEL for Beetejuice.
July/August: Flights and trip now planned ... Mum and the Teen leave mid July, travel by themselves for about 12 days, then we meet up in Berlin, weekend there, maybe Essen, Brussels, and then Amsterdam, cruise up to Basel, and straight home. Some 25yr anniversary bits in there probably.
August: Cheeky overnighter to MEL.

PHEW.

Not sure about Oct/Nov.

Turns out Osaka was a non-starter. Not surprising.

But this one is looking more and more likely: A month in Hoi An during the Christmas school holidays.
The kids drive us nuts for seven weeks anyway, so the thinking is we might as well be somewhere else while they do it.
And Hoi An (or Vietnam generally) is a cheap and generally enjoyable place to do it.

Checking out AirBnB's and apartment rentals at the moment. MrsGM has decided flights need to be day-time and without "excessive" transfer waiting times. That pushed the cost up but we'll see.

Heading to Vietnam in July @GarrettM, will do a week in Danang - mostly for the beaches, with a day trip or two to Hoi An.
If you have anything specifically you want me to observe, just ask.

Keep an eye out for guitar stores maybe? If we spend that long there I'll definitely need to get something to keep me occupied.
Haha, have already emailed one to see if we can hire one for a week @GarrettM !
After lugging his guitar on our recent rinse and repeat trip to Vanuatu - I gently suggested to Mr Flyfrequently perhaps not taking 🎸 to Vietnam as we are doing 6 flights.....the jury is out at the moment!

Oh that's interesting to know. If you're ok to pass on what you learn about hiring I'd be keen to know.

I'm very open to buying an acoustic there and then shipping it home as well. From what I've seen they make quality stuff at decent prices, comparatively speaking.
