2024 F1 Thread

I hope we F1 fans get to see better races in the remainder of the season. The two races so far have been a bit of a disappointment.

”Il bimbo della rossa“ did well! RIC not so well. Put up or shut up time for RIC given how well the new Zealander did in his absence last year?

If Horner gets the chop (unlikely) wonder if RIC will also lose favour?
RIC needs to at least outdrive TSU before he could be considered I reckon.

Early days for this season, but yes. Hopefully it’s just a case of the car not suiting the circuit. To be fair, TSU wasn’t making much of an impression in the race either.

Ricciardo's performance in the first couple of races has been disappointing. He needs to have consistent top 10 finishes at least to have any chance of getting the Red Bull seat next season.

Consistent top ten is a bit of a stretch in the RB this season. As long as he outperforms Tsunoda in the next few races he should have a chance.

RIC probably unfairly maligned for his drive this race - he copped a 40sec pitstop (not shown / seen on coverage at the time). THe spin at the end was bizarre and hasn’t been explained but looks like just too aggressive on the kerb and a spin. Race was cooked by then and it had no meaningful impact.

What was the margin to TSU In the end (Timing isn’t easily obvious just both listed as “1 lap” behind).

Reckon PIA had an excellent weekend - faster than NOR in all three Qs and then forced NOR into trying something different (which didnt work) - one wonders if the team would have got a better result overall if they’d left NOR on a stack or same strategy but NOR i suspect in the pre-race briefing pushed for a different strategy to PIA as he was being outpointed all weekend.

Not happy with Kayo yesterday. Seemed to be on a massive delay. Hope it improves today. I think TEN will make Foxtel/KAYO put ads into their feed to match their breaks.

I haven’t watched on Ten for ages, but aren’t they running Channel 4’s coverage? If so, bit rich to require Foxtel/Kayo to play ads 🤔

I’ve switched to Kayo for the race broadcast. My Foxtel iQ3 is really playing up with the signal cutting in/out. No such issues with Kayo viewing the 4K stream.

I'm only comparing KAYO to the TEN coverage and the APP timing. Quite a delay on Saturday but a bit better Sunday. No commercial breaks, fortunately.

Fairly boring uneventful race, but at least there was a different winner. RUS overegged it into the corner at the end trying to get past ALO and did a real own goal.

They all are but this one did have some moments.

Sorry but time RIC stops stuffing about and moves on and gave way to a better driver. His time is done.

RICs race pace looked ok, but neither he or HAM managed to use the softs to overtake at the start.

But to be honest if I'm RBR I've already contacted Carlos and promised him the 2nd seat for next year.

The one time Max DNF's and Sergio is no where to be seen... not good enough. It's a shame Daniel isn't beating his team mate atm otherwise it would be nice to see him get back alongside Max to see if he still has it. Wishful thinking I know.

Yeah - Carlos Sainz is a good driver, I think Ferrari will regret letting him go, and its crazy that he is out of contract at the end of this year, I also think that Mercedes or Red Bull would be happy to consider him, not that Perez is doing a particularly bad job but I wouldn't be surprised to see Perez retire for more time with his family. The other big question is what happens with Alonso and what happens at Aston Martin, would love to see Alonso in a competitive car, and some are saying that Aston Martin will be better next year so he might stick with them?

The sport really needs at least two more teams and engines i.e. Honda, Audi, Toyota to get more seats available.

First watchable race of the season. I watched the mini-F1 "highlights" of the first two races and they were boring, the full races must have been like watching paint dry.

I have started watching the F2 and F3 races more than the F1. The F2 Sprint Race had a surprise start, which made me sit up, as well as Enzo Fittipaldi sitting in the pit lane for his start. If you have Kayo, watch it if you can, along with the F3 Sprint Race.

And, at least the first few laps of the F1 were entertaining.

It won't be a surprise to see him racing for Red Bull or Mercedes in 2025. It doesn't seem likely that Red Bull is going to sign Ricciardo after seeing his lacklustre performances this season so far.
