2019 - The year in flight

So, from my jaded perspective, having now sampled life again as a normal person, flying is bad for you. But next year I am on the bus again - Chile/Colombia/Bolivia/Tahiti/ New Zealand/Thailand/Vietnam/London/Paris. And some more. Just without a QF tie. I will also travel to somewhere I have dreaded since childhood - that obscure backwater full of mindless perils - Tasmania!
I'm sure the locals will greet you warmly when you get there - as in pitchforks and burning torches type warmly :)

EDIT: Just saw your other post at Tasmanian Tigers, or Devils.? A shocking trip into the deadly and unknown...., and see that @RooFlyer is ready for your arrival

My biggest flying year to date primarily comprised of near weekly SYD-MEL trips

Sectors: 110
Miles: 110,927 (178,520 km)
New airlines: QR
New airports: DOH, BIO, CPH
Shortest sector: KUL - SIN
Longest sector: AKL - DOH

Highlights this year were QR Qsuites from AKL aboard the longest flight and EK F from Europe to Asia

Achieved QF LTS after coming tantalisingly close to P1

2020 should see a similar level of travel to look forward to!

A somewhat lighter year for me but still too many flights. Approx 67 (63 of which were work-related). 79,001 miles. (Manual entries to tracker so could be slightly off).

Same destinations and nothing long-haul. So no new destinations, airlines or aircraft. Rather depressing.

But did get to finally sample the QF "Mini-First" on the brand-spanking-new 787 Dreamliner. That's something, right?

Average year for me, 76 segments and 128963 miles.
New airports: BKK, WLG, PVG

Worst flight: BKK-CMB with UL. Seated in row 1 with no leg room at all!!!

Reached QF WP1 for the first time.

Looking at my stats I should hit 1 million miles on Qantas operated flights next year. If that's a thing...

I love this thread each year, makes me look back and actually think about the ridiculous amount of time I spend in the air.

Interesting year for me as even though I flew less than last year, it felt like I flew more this year.
Back and forward Europe-US every week or two for a couple of months took it out of me.
That said, there were lots of great new experiences, more than most years as I usually get to the same places.

Sectors: 107
Miles: 248,486
New airlines: KE, OS, 7V, V6
New aircraft: Beechcraft 1900C
New airports: OPF, ANU, EIS, ICN, BOS, JNB, INY (airstrip)
Shortest flight: EIS-SJU (96 miles)
Longest flight: LAX-SYD (7,488 miles)
Best new experience: Sharing the "double suite" bedroom with my partner in the new SQ A380 Suites ZRH-SIN

My biggest year by far

54 Flights
104,021 miles, 239 hours flying. Most of which was in Y for work. 4 segments in J and 1 in W.

Many new countries including; Jordan, China, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Israel, Norway, Spain, Ireland and Poland.

Best product: QR A350 J
Worst Product: Ryanair 737

It's been an interesting year.

Sectors: 48
Distance: 97,581 miles
New airline: JL, QR, CX, KA, QF*EK
New aircraft: A350, A320neo
New airports: HND, DOH, PEK, PER, DUD, CHC, MNL, ATL, TPA
Shortest flight: CDG-LHR (216 miles)
Longest flight: LAX-MEL (7,936 miles)
Best new experience: QR J

Boy that was really hard work - every time I put in a plane type I couldn't remove the spaces and it just stuffed up the whole thing and then when I went to edit it totally stuffed the next flight. In the end I just left the plane type blank. But overall a quiet year for me.

I added Innamincka airport and it says it is in Australia but shows as the bottom of Africa on the map.

So I can't work out how many miles I covered because it thinks that I did a very long trip in a little Cessna from mid north of South Australia to the bottom of Africa.

5 countries - 17 airports. New ones for me DOH, BHX, INM, BVI, YLEC, YHAW and ZQN

New airlines Bush Pilots (no code for them) and QR.

New plane - Cessna (leg room was rubbish) View attachment 201229View attachment 201230

Thanks @support for fixing it

Now Tripit that I put almost everything into has given me these stats

And Open flights has given me this so it's just the trip up north that I didn't put into Tripit

Going to tick off 3 more countries next month and will be able to say I've stood on every continent (and the best is that it will be cold)

Relatively unremarkable year for me - 143 flights and 300,392 miles flown.
By distance 37% in F, 57% in C, and 6% in Y (by number 16%, 38%, and 46% respectively).
No new destinations but two new routes (HKG-DUB and MEL-SCL) and 2 inaugural flights.
Worst disruption 15 hours overnight delay (most spent queuing at the service desk), which caused misconnect and overnight delay for the next flight, and further misconnect for the flight after that.
Dishonourable mention - being downgraded from F when rebooked from the delayed QF36 because it would misconnect with my onward flight.

So you went from F suites on 388 to J suites on 330 ... certainly more room on the former.

I had my lightest year of travel segments since 1994:

50 segments
98844 miles
9 days 7:02

Firsts: Airlines: Travel on HX, UL, Routes: Between HKG & BOS/BKK, Between CMB & MEL/SIN/KUL, MEL-KUL.

By Segments:

By Distance:

Similar to other recent years. Too much domestic and asian Y for work, topped up with some J and F redemptions for fun.

Sectors: 71
Miles: 109,074
New airports: OOM, MIM
Shortest sector: OOM - MIM (66 miles)
Longest sector: DXB - BNE (7443 miles)

Firsts - CX F and EK F enjoyed for the first time this year. QF Oneworld award successfully booked online for 2020 departure...

No idea how many flights or distance and too lazy to work it out.

Flying to Chile for the first time and doing an Antarctic cruise with Silversea and crossing the Antarctic circle. Amazing experience but first and last cruise.

we have now been to all 7 continents :)

a trip to New York. Bit same old, but made exciting by doing 4 sectors in Qsuites with Qatar - CBR-DOH-JFK and return. Stopover in Doha. Total convert to Qsuites and you won’t see me on Qantas again :)

Trip to Fiji which definitely wasn’t new but first time we have travelled with friends which was heaps of fun.
