What they told me when I visited and I asked them as I’d seen an extension cord coming out of a window at the back of the Opera House plugged into a Volvo, was that they were worried about the Arctic Circle, the glaciers melting and their coast line and tourism etc. I pointed out that they were very rich in oil and they shrugged that off and said they’d export. I suggested they may be shifting the problem which would only work for a relatively short while. Anyway, I would think they may have more sophisticated arguments available.

So why are they doimg so?

EV like Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) are flavour of the month. But as in most matters economic, the market will eventually decide. AVs will have some hiccups along the was as MCAS has shown with "autonomous planes" (that is planes that take control off the pilots). And batteries pollute, use a lot of energy to produce, and occasionally catch fire in dangerous circumstances. By 2030 EV may be old hat, or the market may be taking them up. But I don't think a government as non-technical as Shorten's would be can really influence matters unless they do what the Norwegians have done - throw tax money at the problems to overcome uneconomic solutions!

Norway is converting very quickly. It is not actually required to spend all that money to effect change.
It has been calculated that the subsidy for EVs in Norway is at least 50% of the cost. Not only is there less sales tax but as well no tolls, free parking, can use bus lanes plus free ferry travel. They were to phase out the tax reductions in 2017 but have extended to I believe 2021 before deciding.
And one other fact that makes Norway different from most other countries.Over 90% of their electricity comes from hydro power. So they have base load renewable power even if the sun don't shine and the wind don't blow.

I spent a few minutes reading some retirees views on Billy’s franking credit grab. Billy has notionally spent quite a lot of money that he hasn’t yet raised and may never be able to raise.
Betting still has him favourite but he does keep stumbling on Labor policies he doesn’t understand.

I had a bit if a laugh doing through the morning paper. Besides the big yellow ads, I spotted a piece of what I'd call "life imitating art". There was a photo of Kevin Rudd, sporting a beard. Was he trying to look like Shaun Micallef, so Kevin could pretend that Shaun's show, The Ex-PM was really about him?

Well the reason Labor's deal in Tassie with Clive was revealed today-polls have the Libs ahead in Bass and Braddon.

I think it’s going to be a lot closer than expected. Which equals mess and lots of deals.

Just heard from an associate, that everyone in his company (over 660 people) was sent an email, saying don't vote for the unions, or you might not have a job by end of the year. Apparently a few complained & they are now at top of list to be laid off.

He is not alone in that respect. Every politician spends from the forward estimates.

Or, sets up the FE for a future media campaign based around - they’re cutting funding to x, y, z..... democracy at its finest. Not!

More like democracy for dummies...

So illegal action by the employer discriminating on the basis of political affiliation. Great they put it on writing so they can be sued.
Do Unions send out similar about not voting for the Coalition?
Agree the Employer is in the wrong assuming the third party info is completely accurate but have observed similar behaviour from all colours.

Beauty, voted and can now turn off until the count.
I voted the other day but had also applied for postal votes for us, both of which arrived today.
When voting at the booths, has anyone been asked why they were voting early? I was the last time I voted early but not this time. Maybe they get sick of people telling them all about their holidays.

When I turned up today the electoral officer said with a bit of a smirk "Going away for the election are we"? I said no, I have an all day conference that day and produced a flyer. "Oh!" was the reply - he looked a little taken aback. I do have a conference that day, from 8:30 - 5:30pm so no way was I going to interrupt that just to vote.
