Attempting to finalize my first USDM award booking 4 people late this year for MEL to CDG. After 7 agents over the last 2 weeks and dozens of hours searching this is where I'm at.
MEL - DOH all in J. DOH - LHR 2 IN J, 2 IN Y. LHR-CDG all in J. I was hoping to avoid LHR because of the taxes(can anyone advise approx what I am up for here as the latest agent said he could not tell me until it is ticketed. Prior to the LHR option from DOH, I had RJ DOH-AMM , with 15hr layover, then RJ AMM -CDG. 2 in J & 2 IN Y. This was not appealing as most I've read about RJ has not been good and partner did not want to stay in Jordan overnight. I'm not sure if I have made the right decision re; the 2nd leg of this outbound flight, I guess when I find out what the taxes are I'll know. Has anyone had experience with RJ on this route?

Coming back, I have flexibility 2 days either side of Jan 17th, so far, no agent has been able to find anything, on any route that include at least 2 in J.They are looking and I am to call back this evening to see if they have been successful(before my hold on what I have already expires). All availability I was able to find myself they say they can't see, or doesn't exist, this was the same when working on the outbound legs. Very frustrating. I have asked all agents nicely during the calls if they could look in the "regular availability system" as someone on here has suggested and they have told me firmly, they are only permitted to look in the "dividend miles system".
Is it an option for me to lock in the out bound trip in and then continue to look for return flights over the next weeks/months?

Meanwhile I have done further searching and have found one option back to DOH, but no further, and a few options to HKG mostly via LHR, and again nothing further from there. I will check other as may other routes though the afternoon to hopefully arm myself with availability that I see. On past experience I am expecting that all this availability simply doesn't exist.
Also, one of us only has 100k USDM, however the rest of us have more than enough mile to share to get her up to her requirement. At what point should I do a transfer of miles into her account?

You do not pay the UK APD if you are in transit. FWIW RJ is fine, lay flat beds and nice planes.

I've had nothing but shocking RJ experiences (and AMM-CDG will be in an A320 so just a seat) so yes, I'd try to avoid them
 
O thanks, no APD makes me feel I made right choice. I checked QR DOH-PER and there is nothing at all I will still have the agent check this though. There seems to be plenty of EK everywhere but that of no use to me.
 
I have found a DOH -HKG on CX, but no further, cannot get into any of MEL,SYD,BNE,ADL

That is not uncommon, what you fins maybe not the allocation they have.

With my USDM booking had same problem, got 2x j QR from DOH to PER the QF to BNE.
 
Yes the problem is getting back into Aust. Availability is showing pretty much everywhere mid point, ie middle East, all the major Asian hubs, even some of the less obvious Asian hubs. Also nothing back via the USA, although I'm not sure I'd exceed the distance allowed via Atlantic & Pacific crossing? I haven't tried Canada yet.
