Hi All,

Given that Woolies has improved their Qantas earn rates and transfer process.

What do you think the chances of Flybuys removing the 138k limit on transfers to Velocity. I find the limit frustrating - we should be able to choose the rewards we want without a limit.

At the end of the day, they are ‘our’ points that we have earned for our continued loyalty to Coles and their affiliate stores.

Once I hit the limit, I’m more inclined shop at Woolies. Flybuys you might be able to shed light on this topic. @flybuys

I agree with you.

This is coughpy limit and should be scrapped particularly considering it's enforced by household.

It will be written into the agreement between Velocity and flybuys, so you'd need to know which side is resposnible for the limit.
I doubt much will happen until the next negotiation of their agreement.

Yep, definitely annoying and frustrating. Until this year, at least one of their bonus promotions each year included a waiver of the transfer limit, so it was bearable. But that hasn't happened since 2018.

Woolies Rewards is now a better proposition: it has a better earn rate (1000 Qantas points per 2000 Rewards points, versus 870 Velocity points per 2000 FlyBuys points), and no transfer limit.

I've now started shopping at Woolies a lot more as a result.

For FlyBuys to remain competitive, they need to do something -- just like Woolies Rewards did something when it wasn't competitive compared with FlyBuys a few years ago.

I suspect the culprit is Flybuys

With family transfers/pooling it's easy enough to get 276K FlyBuys into a Velocity account if you hve that many FlyBuys.

I found Flybuys offers always better. Never had any offer from Woolies where I could spend $50 per week to get $10,000 bonus points.

Although Woolies have increased their earn rate by 15%, this was done at about the same time Qantas re-jigged their redemption rates, with most premium redemptions going up by ~10%. For most of my premium redemptions (domestic and short haul international), Velocity was already a whisker cheaper than Qantas before the changes. For example, in the 601-1200 mile band, a QF J redemption is now 27600 points while VA is 23500 - QF is about 17% more expensive points-wise.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

We put this question to Flybuys, and you can read their response here: Is Woolworths Rewards Now Better Value than Flybuys?

Well I am a member of both the Coles and Woolworths programs, and even though Flybuys have this restriction, getting reward flights on Virgin - and partners is so much easier than with Qantas.

The only problem is the Coles Mastercard - their on-line system is hopeless.

I joined a couple of months ago, and have reached my limit to transfer, but will early in January, then I really cannot see my annual "spend" reaching the 138,000 mark.

I have cancelled my Virgin Visa credit card as Coles Mastercard gives more opportunity to earn the points, with half the fee, and I was not using the $129 flight voucher anyway.

By the way, both Virgin and Coles use Citibank and the Philippines call centres - so they have the same "understanding" problems!

Try living in Tassie, choices are extremely limited, basically to Flybuys. Woolworths completely ignore Tassie shoppers, with NO offers EVER.

We do get 1% in rewards for every shop under the "FSC" - Frequent Shopper Club- doubled for one day a month. No where near Flybuys where, generally, offers are at the 10-20% mark.

I believe the Woolworths issue is due to a company merger years ago with Purity and Roelf Vos and an agreement limiting rewards options. Just not relevant these days! Stops me spending thousands a year at Woolworths, and only between the Coles offers :).

This isn't my experience at all, especially not since the additional flights Qantas has released earlier this year after increasing point charges.

bit of a con, that can't transfer over 138k but can use flybuys travel for same flights but at 3 to 4 times the points required.

Have a lot of flybuys points & recently got some VA ff tix, but when needed 1 more had to go thru flybuys travel.

Now have supermarket with Coles, Woolies & Aldi, right beside each other, so Coles may suffer.

Yep, good points. On routes where both Virgin and Qantas flies, Velocity is better value-for-money.

Paying via Flybuys travel is equivalent to the current virgin cash price for the ticket you buy. It will vary according to the price, eg $100 fare will be 20000 flybuys points. Virgin reward seat will always be a set amount of points.

IIRC the lowest fare bucket are the ff tix or when ff tix disappear so do the cheapest tix at exactly the same rate

Economy reward seats can still be available when getaway fares are sold out, and elevate or freedom fares are selling at much higher rates.

I don't suppose much will happen till next time they review their agreement. Wonder how long the current one goes for...If it's a 5 year agreement, it could be a while!

if you are earning more than 138K on retail spending good luck to ya! you worked hard so there is plenty of earnings capacity to spend those Flybuys points
elsewhere.

Otherwise the cap is obviously there to prevent those abusing the system by using the credit cards for business trading etc. There is no chance iyou are going to win that argument with a "I want more" rationale.

I spend about $3000 at Coles to reach that 138k in points, and it takes a couple of years (95% is earned as bonus points). Agree with you re the cap, there for a reason.
