10K Bonus with AMX FX Transfers

I also had the 0 points posting error. I was told I had to wait until 2 months after the transaction and then they would investigate.
The problem is even the bonus points need to wait 2 months, we should get our base points immediately once the transaction finished. The CSR talked to me yesterday seems pretty serious on this issue, so it might be a bug in their system?

Does anyone have a copy of the letter that was posted regarding this offer? I could have sworn it said Platinum cardholders pay $0 fees per transaction.

I have a Platinum reserve, made 2 payments that were fee-free. I went to do a third payment and was charged $10. I spoke to a customer service rep, and was told that the $0 fee is only for Platinum Charge. I pointed out I had already made 2 transctions fee-free, and was told that they had made a mistake, but would not be charging me for the fees on these transactions already made. (How kind of them!) Apparently it was due to a clerical error. I am really annoyed about this - if anyone has the letter I'd be really happy to hear from you. Has anyone had a similar experience?

By the way, I also have the 0 points credited for the transaction, so I was already a bit cagey about the whole deal before the fee issue arose....

This is the email they sent me once I signed up:

Yes, got mine yesterday, the basic points were added to bonus and posted together.

So far I have just received the points due from my first transfer, they arrived after 7 weeks. No sign of the 10K bonus yet, or the points for the subsequent 2 transfers I've done. Hopefully the bonus turns up soon. I hate having to chase for points.

Well it's almost 3 months since my first transfer and no sign of my bonus points. I called up Amex today and was put through to the FX section. A very pleasant man informed me that I was entitled to them and was sorry they hadn't posted, but he would get it sorted out. I then received an email a little while ago confirming that I would receive the points, but I technically didn't qualify as I needed to have done a transfer before 31 August. Even though I had confirmed with him on the phone my first transfer was in fact prior to this.

I have written back expressing my disappointment that their records are simply inaccurate, and that I have had to chase it. HOpefully they'll not make me wait to long for the points to post, the email said it could be an additional 6 weeks, which is ridiculous, but we'll see. I had to chase my initial sign up bonus points from platinum charge card too. Why do they make you chase? Are they hoping most people wont bother?

Annoyed, but hopefully it will be sorted.

Cheers

This whole thing is one big con. Still waiting for 10,000 pts from transaction made on 29 Aug (curiously the points for the transaction did come through, just not the bonus points).

However, there is also a matter of some missing money. Both myself and partner made transfers from our respective Amex accounts to my citibank account in Singapore (SGD->AUD) and $20 SGD on each transfer went missing somewhere (in both instances the amount recieved was exactly 20SGD less than the amount that Amex indicated they transferred). (Note this was after the deduction of the $10AUD fee for making the transaction).

Contacted citibank they suggested it was a charge by intermediary bank, contact the institution who sent the money. Contact Amex FX and they indicated it was a charge with intermediary, and in line with their PDS, as I have quoted below. Anyone else encountered this? I for one certainly will not be using Amex FX any more, once I receive my 10K pts will close down my account, and I am happy to continue to use (and advocate for) ozforex who do not have such hidden fees and have very reasonable rates. Not a big sum, but it's the principle of the matter!

Many financial institutions overseas impose processing fees when handling Telegraphic Transfers. These fees are set by the processing institution and vary between institutions and countries. As a result, the amount of the payment actually received by the beneficiary may not necessarily be the same as that requested by the customer

2. Fees and Charges. You agree to pay all fees and charges in relation to processing a Telegraphic Transfer. These fees and charges include those disclosed in the product disclosure statement, but may also include fees and charges which a third party charges us for processing a Telegraphic Transfer on our behalf. You acknowledge that in some cases the third party may not charge
us a fee, but will instead deduct this fee from the amount the beneficiary receives

ps. when I sent to sing, the bank there charge $15 fee so.
So. did u send enough to cover the charge here and there and also the $20 for the receiver.

Singapore bank (citibank) indicated no charge for inward remittances. Seems the $20 fee was imposed by a mystery intermediary somewhere between Amex FX in AUS and Citibank in SIN. Was sending to myself so covering charges wasn't the issue, it was the lack of transparency on what the fees are that was the problem. In this instance it was $20, under the PDS nothing stopping that being $200.

I not sure but did you use a swift code to identify rec bank directly? Maybe some banks reroute to international HQ and then back to the local concern.

Anyway I got my points in about 5 weeks with the 10K bonus. For me a few dollars to get 10K was good choice.
