But now you have to climb the 50% and 75% barriers when one 30k transfer would have you rolling along at 100%????

I did a few scenarios and this came out to the the best one (least actual $ cost). Of course it might be far from optimum, but it came out better than when I started with a transfer of 30 or 40.

Speaking of which, has anyone looks at this as a variation to the traditional "knapsack" problem?

1) six sacks
2) all empty, except one having 40 "chips"
3) transfer of chips from one sack to another may earn bonus chips (based on a set table)
4) transfer of chips incurs a cost of, say, 1cent per chip per transfer
5) each sack may earn maximum of 50 bonus chips, after which transfers are allowed but don't earn any bonus
6) we want to, say, end up with around 150 chips in 2 of the sack and with zero or minimal left over in the other sacks

Based on the above conditions and constraints:
7) minimise the total amount of cost calculated in item 4 above.

I have looked at this from a math/operational research point of view and have developed the optimisation formula, but have not had time to actually implement it in software to calculate the optimum answer... Where are those people in high school that keep telling you math is useless in real life??!! ;-)

Can you tell I totally forgot about the $30 transfer fee in my calculations?

Just took the plunge as well. Had 40k in my son's account. Divided it into 4x10k into his brother's and sister's as well as my parents' (I have 3 kids; all accounts are legitimate family accounts). NONE have appeared so far, and the originating account still shows the original 40k balance :-( This was about 1 hour ago.
First, have all the accounts been open for more than 12 days?

Secondly, see post # 28 and consider it's also approx. 2am PST ...

I will incorporate the $30 in my calculations later on, but because cost (item 7) has number of transfers inherent in there, I don't think the end result will be far off the optimum....

I think you are way off optimum, simply because the max any account can end up with is 100K, anything less than 30k does not get the 100% bonus and as you already said you forgot the fee.

30k transfer gives 60k for around $365 A to B, A left with 10 B with 60
Leave 10 in B and transfer 50 gives 100 in C account $565, so A is 10 B is 10 and C is 100
Transfer from C to A and D, 50K each, $1130, leaves A on 110, B on 10, C nothing D 100
Cost $2065 USD

You vey well could be right; I just don't know... I need to implement the formula and see what it comes up with... Around $2k for 2x100 (from the original 40) sounds good, but I was/am aiming for 2x150 (and that, by itself, is less than optimal, as any transfer beyond 100k will max out the account's bonus cap)

I agree they are way off especially with starting at 10k in accounts, that just wastes bonus'. But do note that transfers can be made without earning bonus points. So 150K is possible.

It did take two hours from 7am to 9am Tuesday Melbourne time.

Maximising bonus only:

40K in son's Account -> xfer 38K from son account $450
76K in brother's account, 0 in son's account -> xfer 50k from brother's account $570
100K in sister's account, 30k in brother's account -> xfer 50k from sister's account $570
100K in Dad's account, 50k in sister's account -> xfer 50k from Dad's account $570
100K in Mum's account, 50k in Dad's account -> xfer 50k from Mum's account $570
100K in son's account, 50k in Mum's account -> xfer 20k from son's account $240
60k in brother's account, 80k in son's account.

Final tally: 290k ~USD2970
son 80K
brother 60K
sister 50K
Dad 50K
Mum 50k

Hopefully the rest of my (forthcoming) transfer won't take that long, otherwise I'll miss the window...

The second transfer was instantaneous. I think the tip is to do the transfers during Business hours in the USA.

I only have 2,000 points to transfer! And nobody to transfer to! :(

I'm also a half million miler but I have to say my most recent searches on KVS have shown pretty awful availability on OW out of MEL. Barely able to find QR and MH which used to show up well, far in advance now it seems to consistently be at 1 business class seat per flight available. Struggle to ever find CX at C2 out of MEL as well.

Have a feeling that future trips could end up being a LifeMiles / AA combo!

BCWold this is concerning!!! If we can't purchase 2 tickets at a time then maybe US Air is too risky to purchase more miles. Everytime I travel there is always 2 of us, if I can't purchase 2 tickets then what is the point? I would like to buy some point in this offer as this is a great deal, wonderful. I do wonder if the points can't be used for anything worthwhile then I question stocking up on point????!!!!!

Not that concerning, probably a spike caused by folks hitting this promo, and worst case you will get them moved to AA and usable on QF etc.

It took 12 hrs for mine to transfer, not instant like others.

It took closer to 20 for one of mine, very pleased to be able to help two of our AFF members get a nice bump, what are friends for but to share ;).
