Where is your daughter located? That will help us provide an answer

And time frame.

There will always be the best advice here, but you need to give enough info.

The short answer is flight.

OK, she’s in SYD and she says around Oct.

What is the goal here?

10 SC off a major rung like gold is important. But will she use the benefits?

It is a frequent flyer program. With clear criteria to attain such status. She will have to fly to attain. But if that means a status run, is the cost justifiable against the use she will get from it?

that is the main thing here.

Thanks. Seems that flying is the option then. Does QF ever offer ‘so close’ incentives?

Yes, periodically she has to do flights in Y for work. SG would be useful.

I once was 5 SC short of silver. I really wanted it just for seat selection on an upcoming international flight. I called Qantas and they gave it to me. Meant the world to me, back then. But that was almost a decade ago - have grave reservations that they would do it now, but never hurts to try.

For someone achieving SG for the first time, no they wouldn’t offer an “incentive”...

Very, very occasionally to retain status but have never heard of it to attain status. A quick flight somewhere cheap and even if it requires a train/bus trip home.

Look for a cheap fare to CBR to see if she can get a cheap fare during the day and then the Murray's bus home or vice versa.

Probably a very real take on this. And before anyone gets upset with Qantas, just within this forum there is much angst against status being eroded by things such as non-flying ways to attain points and credit. So on the one hand in the forum there is much anti-Qantas commentary for not bending the rules to make someone such as your daughter gain a rung in the status ladder, but likewise there is ill feeling from those that fly the necessary miles who get crowded out by non-real-frequent flyers.

Or fly back. After they first sector your daughter could use the lounge while waiting for the flight home.

Well I guess I was only thinking to pre-empt 10 status credits for her next domestic flight. Not because of any other particular reason to get status or “crowd out” others, and 10 SC causing angst.

No other planned travel between now and October?

SYD-OOL $89 with Plus Bundle and return for $49.
