10 credits short of Gold renewal with three days to go.

If you have any plans to travel regularly next year, i'd be ducking away for a day trip (albeit a very long one) or an overnighter tonight.

10SC's seems a minuscule amount to miss out on (and next year you'll have to get 700SC's to get it back).

Safe bet that if you've not been comped now, you won't be. Overwhelming evidence suggests it's the norm to be 4-6 weeks prior, with a very small handful having been comped later.

For the sake of 10SC's (and not needing 700 next year if you want it back) i'd be finding a way myself.

There's the option I guess of getting a friend to sit in the plane on your behalf.

Checked my account this morning and the 590 credits got me a Gold comp for 2014. So all good and saved myself a bunch of money and travel time. Think I'll plan it a better though this year.

Does your expiry date now say 2014? I believe that it may stay Gold for a few days to allow for any previously taken flights to credit. If your status renewal date is now end of 2014, then well done :)

You need the status date for reassessment changed to 2014 I believe.I Got excited when that happened to me... But I was downgraded from WP to SG

Fingers crossed anyway! 10Sc away deserves to be comp...

I was 1050 Sc away

I'm another exception. I've been comped 3 WP years running but in no case did I need it. If the 6 week rule applied, I'd be hundreds short in all years, but I was comped before my last (long) leg in J each year, so over 100 short.

IMHO you are not an exception at all, as you have not actually ended up being comped at all - you have just been "would be comped if necessary" 3 times. Whatever keeps track of such things would have seen you as eligible, and made the upgrade in the first year. As you made it on your own anyway, when things are checked towards the end of next year, your previous year earn would be showing you having made qualification on your own (so not being a comp), and thus you would be considered as eligible for a comp for the current year. This pattern could continue indefinitely.
I expect that if you actually "used" the comp by not making it, then you would see different behavior the next year.

Got dropped to Silver. game over... booked PE for the family to LAX with VA instead.

I remember when QFF used to contact you before reassessment date if you were a bit short and enquire as to whether you were planning any travel in the next year (and if so, the chances of being comped were higher). Sadly, another enhancement.

That was a very nice service, and it's surprising how often Qantas would re-qualify you if you were close enough and able to do a few segments not long after your turnover date.

I'm going to try that today.

I think if you can give them some rough dates and travel plans for 2014 your chances will be improved. If they say no initially point out which virgin flights you will take instead. Ive had success with this argument on hotel programs, so may be worth a try. Good luck!

Sorry to hear that you "missed it by that much" powervideo Frustrated wouldn't be the word
With being only 10 SC's short, I would have found a way to earn it. QF's Premium Economy product is much better than VA, despite being much more expensive.

Still, it is what it is:)
