I like this, there is a point where being a good Dad isn't proving for their kids, it's getting them to the position they can provide for themselves!

Indeed. Give someone a fish, and they have a meal. Teach them how to fish.......

She already is much better at competitions than myself, mainly due to her developed strategies. She looks for certain criteria wich determine which competitions she enters, and then has a particular set of strategies for how she enters.

On her 9 months sojourn, while I did provide the J flights, she won a two trek in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, a 14 day bus trip in Europe, plus gain a $1000 cash from Dominos.

She is also a dab hand at finding the absolute cheapest price for various tours/activities sold by multiple retailers worldwide as they all price them differently. Often they have different names for the same tour/activity but she noticed they often used the same pics. So once she found something she liked, she actually searched not just on the name, but by searching for the pic. She saved often large amounts this way.

Citibank's processing of these applications is pretty inconsistent. From reading here and Ozbargain there seems to be a wide variety of responses ranging from people who earn much less than than required and are approved, and others who meet all the criteria with room to spare and are declined.

I applied for the Signature card, with $15k limit and well exceeding the minimum income. My application was immediately conditionally approved, and I emailed my ID and payslips.
A few days later I received the runner up prize - "Congratulations on your new Platinum card!".

I applied for a reassessment, which was basically a professional sounding letter declining their offer for a product that I did not apply for, requesting a reassessment of my initial application, requesting written reasons if my reassessment was unsuccessful and insisting that no Platinum account be opened in my name.

This afternoon I found three letters in the mailbox from Citi-
1) Congratulations on your credit limit increase approval on your Platinum card - to $0.
2) Please find enclosed your new PIN for your Platinum card.
3) Thank you for choosing Citibank Signature - your new Signature card is attached.

That sounds pretty consistent based on what has been posted in this thread.
With our 2 cards we have the same incomes but different credit limits in Australia and then in the US the different credit limits are reversed so Mrscove's limit is three times my limit. Consistently inconsistent worldwide so stop thinking they are picking on you as it is just a bit unusual.

I'm not complaining Cove, just sharing my experience for those who got the Platinum and are wondering if it's worth asking for a reassessment.

It was the long way around, but mission accomplished. :)

Maybe what you can do is apply for both cards and just keep 1 when you get both! That's if you pass round 1. Perhaps they have folks in there that cant read properly.

After my +1's application was cancelled and reinstated, it was finally approved and he received two PINs in separate letters

Wonder if this offer will be extended longer after this Friday.......I bet it will go til the end of March.

I applied for this card on the 28th Feb to get it fee free for life. Just got approved email today. Hopefully they get it right with the fee free! Almost went with the QF offer but find the fee free more beneficial. And will credit to SQ or VA

I received my signature card yesterday being with Citibank for many years I didn't need to provide any proof of income. I'm happy that the supplementary card is also fee free.

I am hoping they don't "enhance" the transfer rate to SQ or VA.....

I applied on the last day (thanks to the info here). Citi tries to upgrade me and still pay the plat card annual fee.

They said they will put in a request.

Received the card yesterday but with an annual fee.

Talking to them today they advise that I have the lifetime free fee. Now having telephone tag to get it in writing.

Don't we all. But it would be naïve to think they won't.

Every credit card has gone that way - devalued over time due to competition. To compensate, new, higher-tier cards are introduced. Plat is the new "base level" card pretty much.

Look at Singapore as an example of where this will head - (look on the SG Citibank, DBS, UOB, CIMB websites). Just about every card is a platinum card.

I just called and they said the offer had been extended through to April, but i will need to call on Monday to sign up or do it online (it's Sunday right now). No such extension info on the webpage though. Hopefully it's just not their way of stringing you along ("congrats you've been approved for the full fee version!").

I'll report back.

Unless they are too lazy to change that date on the webpage. Meaning a different story once you get approval and start the annual fee on the opening statement. A little surprise.

Is there any way to ensure they don't do this? E.g a contract or similar clearly stating the agreement before you sign on the dotted line.

Also, is it better to sign up on the phone? Then you can ask the pointed questions and perhaps get an employer ID if the whole thing goes into dispute. Or doesn't make a different vs online?

As you mentioned, the offer is until the end of April, so you have rang then and spoke to then, and once you get your contract it should state it there it is fee free. Get back to us when you have applied and being approved, that way we will all know straight from you as the tester to this theory....

Just called up to clarify and was told the "Family & Friends" - > $0 annual fee offer for Platinum and Signature is now valid until 31st July 2014 despite the site still saying ends 28 February 2014.

Citibank Australia

A question for the more experienced, how do the points calculate on the signature?

1. Total spend for the month (less ineligible transactions) * 1.5
2. 1.5 * the dollar value of each eligible transaction (less cents)
3. Other method

Depending on the number of transactions there could be points "missing" under method 2. I'm still to use my card so haven't tested it yet.

Thanks in advance.
