QF vs. EK - review of experience on SYD-BKK flights

Exactly the same experience with me. In fact, their tone was like "do you like to use EK lounge instead of QF lounge?" almost implying that if I entered to EK lounge I would not be able to enter the QF lounge afterwards. Based on your description it is not true, but I guess try every deterrent...

QF vs. EK - review of experience on SYD-BKK flights

I apologise, I must have gotten the planes mixed up indeed. Or it might be that EK's B777's look as nice and swanky as QF's A380. :) I have to admit I did not fly in J class in A380 with EK or QF so can't say much about seat difference but I don't think it changes the substance of my comparison...

QF vs. EK - review of experience on SYD-BKK flights

As a QF Plat I'm flying SYD-BKK quite regularly on J using both QF and EK. Below is a comparative review of both, based on my experiences - in case it helps anyone: Check-in/boarding: QF Qantas beats hands down, with better/quicker service both in SYD and BKK. In BKK, particularly, EK...

    F Lounge newsmagazines

In business lounges in BKK or LON, I frequently find a well-stocked array of top-tier newsmagazines; e.g. The Economist, National Geographic, Forbes, Fortune, Time, Newsweek etc. Emirates even distributes many of these on its planes regularly. In the Qantas F lounge in SYD, however, one only...

Recognition of QF Status on one World Partners

Come to think of it, of the 4+ years I've spent as a QF Gold/OW Sapphire before becoming Platinum, one of very few cases of op-up was when I got upgraded to J was on a SYD-HKG flight on CX. Perhaps CX is indeed 'nicer' to OW elites than other OW airlines.

    Priority boarding question

I really agree this helps, and I worry the FAs may just not care about priority boarding (just like the baggage handlers just don't care about priority luggage) - so the tone should be set clearly. Australia is a very egalitarian country, and we Australians always love rooting for the underdog...

What compensation have you received for a delayed or cancelled QF flight?

This was the case on my earlier flight as well - QF flight code but operated by JQ. QF disowned any responsibility and basically ignored any complaints, even when the operating carrier is fully owned by them. I have to say I find these arrangements the least helpful when it comes to customer...

What compensation have you received for a delayed or cancelled QF flight?

On QF I received in 2010 a ~$200 voucher for a 4-5 hour delayed SYD-SIN flight. I was on Y. On S***star, in 2012, me and gf had an LST-SYD flight cancelled on us on a Sunday evening. They had a mechanical issue and they couldn't get around to solving it before curfew time. They instead made us...

    Hilton in Fiji?

Stayed there October last year. Great hotel, great service. Can't complain. Their restaurant is one of the best in the whole area. I found one of the island snorkelling trips okay, but too much kid-friendly. Average age = 12. If you've kids, great. Mamanucas has more couples-friendly trips...

Award flights ex-BKK - card verification

I agree - I live in BKK at the moment and had to book an award tix to LON. The only way was to pay $60 assisted booking fee on the phone, or show up in person in their BKK office. Their office is centrally located in BKK central district but can be a pain to get to even so - with only opening...

    SPG hotels in New Caledonia

G'day all, Me and gf are planning a week-long vacation in New Caledonia. I've got lots of SPG points recently so we're planning 3 days in Noumea and 5 days in Ile des Pins. Has anyone stayed in them recently? Any feedback / views you'd share, especially on recognition of SPG status benefits? Cheers!

    QF 91 business class?

G'day all, I'm planning for some much needed break in New Caledonia in October. SYD-NOU classic award flights are quite rare in Economy I found. So far my options are: Classic award for 50K points + $367: SYD-NOU business on QF91, NOU-SYD economy on QF92. ASA award for 92K points: Economy both...

    Bangkok tailor

G'day all. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good tailor in Bangkok? I'll be here for a while so a non-touristy place will do. Ideally in/around Sukhumvit, please. Cheers.

    Istanbul Advice

Re: Istanbul Istanbul was my hometown for the first 20 years of my life. May is one of the best times, you will love it. You'll know the usual suspects, Blue Mosque etc. Here are some more tips on the slightly less well known: * Try watching the sunset from Uskudar overlooking the Leandros...

    New QF app

With the current QF iphone app, I can't check my status credits or recent account activity from the account. Nor can I see my existing bookings. I can't calculate sc/points to be gained or points required for a classic award from y to z for all destinations. I just hope the new app will have...

    2400 SC - which award?

Thanks heaps to everyone for their tips and the congratulations! My partner is a lucky owner of a Westpac Black card so she has a couple lounge invites already. And most of the time we travel together so she can enjoy F lounge anyway. :) So I decided to choose the 50K points as well!

How long to receive new card?

Mine took 2-3 weeks as well. It was certainly shorter than a month. I recall someone saying that they do it in batches but it still shouldn't be that long - especially since you're in a metro area in Sydney. I'd probably ring them up to ask if there's been a problem?
