Successful QF 'Bid Now Upgrades' data thread

Saw this thread and thought I'd check to see what the upgrade is on my upcoming flight back to SYD (from MEL), had a good chuckle:

Obviously that's way too much for an upgrade (particularly on a narrow body). If I wanted to spend that kind of money, I would've bought the business fare outright!

This is on a 737. Last time I flew SYD-CBR on a 737, the CSM served everyone a drink with a bag of Santos nuts/pretzels and then had to prepare the cabin for landing!
My last SYD-CBR in J was on the 717 a few months ago, and came with a rather delicious spinach and feta quiche 🤓 Definitely not worth the upgrade cost though!

Yesterday, I was successful with a bid I made a few days ago for today's QF738 Adelaide-Sydney (2nd April) flight. I bid the minimum amount of $221 on a fare I originally purchased on points on Sunday. At that time, 6 BC seats were still available. For comparison, I won the Virgin Sydney-Adelaide flight the day before for $65, again it was the minimum bid.

I think, for ADL - MEL, if you bid $!50, and had bought tix for say $150, there is a chance of success.
Going J price, I think is $555, ...
For ADL - SYD, $220 has a chance of success, of course, depends on time of day and day of week.
$690 normal J fare, innit?

One time, I wasnt paying attention, had bought tix MEL -> ADL I think was $189, had bid under "bid now" for $150, didnt hear anything, went to lounge and asked the lady, she said with a sad face, (I am afraid it a full flight), sadly went back down the back steps of the MEL J lounge, got far, and my phone plinged, 2 hrs and a bit before flight, success, "bid now" accepted.

Just jagged 2 x J one-ways from SYD-SCL on QF27, via a successful Bid Now cash upgrade from whY.

The nominated bid range for J was from $1275-$7080 pp. ExpertFlyer showed J9, D9, C9 and a visual inspection of the J cabin suggested that there might be 12-15 vacant seats. I bid $1500pp - a "poor" bid according to the meter - and won!

Sitting in my Santiago hotel right now, very happy with snagging a J class flight just before Easter at half of the flex rate. Shame about the smog over here though... 😷
