Successful QF 'Bid Now Upgrades' data thread

First time visitor to this thread so if there is a chart I'm happy to be referred to it.
I have a Bid Now Upgrade offer to J from QANTAS for SYD - HND on May 30.

Status is Bronze in Economy and paying for the ticket with points. QClub member which may provide some status,

Is there a general guideline I could work towards for a successful bid? I must admit that I am slightly surprised by the offer as ExpertFlyer is showing J as full although that includes 4 or 5 seats that are blocked.

Any thoughts s appreciated.

ExpertFlyer (paid sub) shows there are 4 J seats still for sale.

What's the minimum bid? Generally you want to bid slightly more than min bid, but given you already have lounge access via QC it would need to be pretty cheap (IMO) to consider a Bid Now upgrade over a classic upgrade.

Classic upgrades are also prioritised first, and on a route like SYD-HND I expect all 4 remaining seats will go to classic upgrades.

Thanks. I have a paid version of Expert Flyer and I had seen what seems to be a different result. (see attached)

But nevertheless, I had considered Classic Upgrade so will take that advice. Thanks!

Seat maps aren't a reliable indicator of availability. Use the Flight Availability function instead to search for the flight - the number of J class seats available corresponds with the number of Business seats Qantas is willing to sell. (NB some airlines will oversell cabins, but generally Qantas does not oversell J AFAIK)

Good luck with this. Having been Bronze myself I have actually successfully bid and won but it is very much who else is willing to part with their money. ( and to what degree). At the time of bidding - I did not have paid Qantas Club.

As a data point, the minimum bid for a Y to J upgrade on my QF81 next week (SYD-SIN) is $785 (and no points).

I probably won't bother as it's a daytime flight and I have a reasonable seat in Y.

Geez - you’d want to hope you’d get J (or at least PC/PC+ ‘U’) SCs at that rate, but we know it don’t work that way!

Qantas has just sent me my first ever 'Bid Now Upgrade' mail, which is associated with upcoming travel on their metal from SYD to SIN & return.

Their wonderous opportunity at the 0 points / mid-mark offer range is for A$1,380 EA x 3 pax to move from paid J to F, on a 388 which is already showing F0 A0 (hint: ain't happening for love or money)... and then on the inbound, for A$1,400 EA x 3 pax to move from paid J to F, on a 332 (hint: no F cabin!).

I think I'll leave it :D

Minimum bid of $250 on a MEL-CBR 717 flight? Not a chance 😂

FWIW I can bid for an upgrade on VA on the same route for $80.
Put them both in perspective, I just paid US$97 for an outright upgrade to First on AA on ORD-BOS (2 1/2 hr flight) in a few weeks time.

I normally don’t buy whY across the US but apart from missing out on bonus SCs, these sorts of upgrade offers are pretty good value!

I'm not planning to bid, but I'm booked on QF27 (SYD-SCL) in Premium Economy and the minimum bid to upgrade to J is $890.

Do any long haul bids clear? Noting points upgrade requests trump $ bids.

I certainly wouldn't count on it clearing. I guess it's possible though if there aren't that many people requesting points upgrades and/or there are lots of unsold premium seats.
