Hi everyone

My niece is flying to Vancouver in January with Virgin and Delta. On the return leg she had a six hour layover at LAX.

I'd like to buy her a single use lounge pass to use during this wait but the lounges I have looked at seem to only sell them at the desk.

Is there a lounge at LAX for which I can buy a single use day pass which I can give to her for Xmas?

Thanks Peter

I'll answer my own question here. After some further research I ascertained that one could buy an Alaska Airlines lounge pass for about $A60. It's not the greatest lounge but at least it has an automated pancake machine!

Unfortunately I don't think the Alaska lounge will be accessible to her without going through extra security (at LAX, this can be a lot of time). They are in Terminal 6, Delta is in Terminals 2 & 3. There is no route inside security between these two terminals.

The only lounges easily accessible to her would be the Delta SkyClub ($59 daypass, but only available at the club).

She will arrive from Vancouver on Delta at either terminals 2 or 3. She can then proceed to the lounge and later take the bus to the other terminal.

I find walking at LAX is often easier than the hasell of the bus, I've also spent over an hour getting through the security at Alaska's security gate.

... she had a six hour layover at LAX....

each to their own, but in my humble opinion any lounge that accepts a cash payment is not worth it. With those $60 I would take a bus and see something in LA.
It is enough time to have a short but fun exit from the airport.
A $60 lounge may let you get paralytic if they have something you love drinking, but apart from that, meh.

Forgive me if I'm missing something, but she is flying YVR-LAX on Delta, then LAX-Australia on VA? I just want to make sure Virgin America isn't involved.

If so, "she can then proceed to the lounge" means walking out of T2/T3, then walking about 15-20 minutes outside (or a similar amount of time waiting for and taking the terminal bus that sits in gridlock half the day) to get to Terminal 6. Then going through a security checkpoint that can be an hour long wait to enter T6.

Now, I just realized that T6 is connected through tunnels to T6 -> T5 -> T4 - TBIT (Intl terminal). So she could make the really long walk (30 minutes?) through these tunnels to get to TBIT without having to reclear security. That helps.

But, since she would have the option of a bus to TBIT from T2 or T3, she is really crossing LAX and going through unnecessary security just to access a pretty average lounge space.

TBIT has some nice restaurants and spaces to relax. I wouldn't add up to 2 hours of walking and security just to get some free beers and packaged cheese at the Alaska lounge. But as long as she knows what to do, she can make that call.

Unfortunately nobody gave you this advice before you bought the lounge pass (sounds like?). But my advice normally would be to take the Marriott or Hilton LAX shuttle to the respective hotels (this is free), and eat in the cafes or restaurants in the hotel. The Hilton has a 24 hour cafe. They don't ask any questions on the shuttle, and as long as I am spending money on the property I feel like the shuttle ride isn't freeloading.

Note that there may be PP lounge availability at the TBIT KAL lounge.

AA may have restarted selling day passes for the AC's at T4/T5 since the renovations completed.

As for local options a bus to parking lot C then across the road from that to the bus interchange. (The interchange is also an easy 10-15 minute walk from T2.)

But where from there? Westfield Culver city is a 20 minutes ride each way.

Thanks for the good advice. I had thought that the Alaska terminal was in terminal 2 or 3 but now I see its in terminal 6 which causes problems. No matter as I can cancel the pass I purchased.

I did some further research and have found the solution to my problem. The following link gives a discounted subscription to Dragonpass and includes 1 free lounge visit. My niece should be able to use this at the KAL lounge at TBIT.
