Having thoroughly enjoyed several of Buzz's tours of the Barossa, and looking forward to the Hunter Valley gig in January, I thought I should see if there was interest in a tour based out of Hobart.

So I'm seeking expressions of interest based on these rough and very early planning parameters of 2 scenarios. Please express interest in the ONE or TWO day version. People are also welcome to suggest variations :) .

I'm thinking of a 48 seater coach and maybe a MAY '16 timing. However maybe we can vary it to over-lap with Dark mof_ (2016 dates TBA; this year it was mid June).

The last QF/JQ flights from HBA to Sydney or MEL or BNE on a Saturday or Sunday leave about 5:30pm. On Virgin, its 4:30 on Saturday, 6:10pm on Sunday (those will need confirming!!)

** Please note the wineries mentioned are just place holders at this stage. I have not asked them about group visits yet. I'm more interested in people's preference for the one or two day choice.

Scenario 1 (and my preference)

Two days. Commence Saturday morning via ferry Hobart to the Moorilla winery at MONA (but we wouldn't visit MONA unless people prefer that to tasting wines!!). Continue by coach to Stefano Lubiana Wines at Granton, then proceed up the east coast of Tasmania, stopping at one winery (perhaps Freycinet) and ending the day at Coles Bay. A wide range of accommodation possible, from Freycinet Lodge, to many self catering houses. Dinner maybe at the Lodge or we could have a BBQ at my place at Coles Bay :) :) .

Sunday, head back south and stop at maybe another east coast winery (Milton?) or two (Spring Vale?) , before getting to a winery in the Coal River Valley (Frogmore Creek?) for a late (and perhaps long!) lunch. Drop off at the airport before 4pm.

Estimated cost $160/head based on 25 in a 48 seater coach and the 'Posh Pit' on the ferry to MONA on Saturday morning (to get the tour off on a good start!!). If there were 35 pax the cost would be about $120. Your accommodation etc in Coles Bay would be extra $$, but I expect would arrange this beforehand (I have contacts in Coles Bay!!).

Scenario 2

Sunday. Also begin with a ferry to Moorilla winery at MONA, then to Stefano Lubiana, then on to Frogmore Creek Winey in the Coal River Valley and to the airport.

Cost for this would be between $75 and $100 based on 25 pax and including the ferry fare.

So, have a think and let me know any suggestions for timing etc.

We're definitely interested. 2 day version sounds like fun. Also happy to do the one day trip if that's what's available.

Interested, prefer Two day option, but would still do the one day version if that is what is decided upon. Attendance would depend on dates and other commitments.

I'm interested but would fly into Hba on a Fri evening, and leave Sun evening....so 2 day event would be my preference. The weekend of May 27-29 2016 is Ozfest at Ool which a number of AFFers here are attending ;)

Interested, the 2 day option would be my first preference but the one day option would be ok - as with everyone else attendance would be subject to dates and other commitments. W/E 21/5/16 is no good for me either.

Hunter Valley wine gig in January ??? I thought it was February !!

We are definitely interested in preferably 2 day event but would have to be early May as we are tripping around Europe in late May.

Definitely interested, could perhaps even merge it into a honeymoon for myself depending on dates in May/June. Would therefore prefer 2-day option ;)

Ah, yes ... February . I was thinking of another do I'm going to.

I would like to do the 2 day trip but it's a matter of being able to get Friday off to fly down. ADL must have some of the worst flight options.
With all these wine tour operators popping up I'll be out of a job soon

Virgin can get you into HBA by 10am on the Saturday morning, with a bright and early start from ADL  . A quick taxi ride will probably see you with us at the first winery at 11:00, even if it is the furthest away, Moorilla. I wouldn't recommend the early start option for many though, given it will be winter and HBA can be subject to fog.

I'd be interested.... what was the question again?

I/we could be starters. At the moment a fair chance that I will be back in Burnie working May,June and July. However wont know until ~ 6 months time when they get permission to hire for that period.
Of course after today I wonder why I would still do it.But then looking out over Bass Strait with the snow coming down was not the worst office view you can have.

I hope to be travelling elsewhere around that time of year but even so may be able to fit it in, depending on exact timing (or if other plans don't make it). Just an 'interested' at this stage thanks (but sounds like a great trip).

The question was whether people were seriously interested in either of the 2 options given .. so if there is enough interest, I can spend time in serious planning and costing without wasting my time.

Yep.. we are interested :) With that view in the first post how could we resist!!
Two days is better for us..
Thanks RF :)

The 2 day version for me.

1 day seems like something I could do on my own when I'm down there next month.

2 day option is looking good for us
