Bonus points in my household today!

During the month I noticed my daughter had managed to accumulate 163 searches. I have no idea how she managed to go over the 150, but thought it would be interesting to see what posted to her account. Today, 163 points posted.

My other daughter had only received 56 of her 150 August points and I hadn't yet got around to following up the rest - today she had another 150 points from August added to her account.

Small gains, but every point counts. Hopefully this toolbar keeps working for us this way :)

Don't know how I did it, but I just searched for Expert Flyer and got this message at the bottom:

"Congratulations, you earned 3 points."

Have they increased the earn ratio dor travel related searches??

I'd love to test it but I've already hit my max searches for the month :)

I gave up a few months ago when my 60 points for searching Virgin Australia over and over again never landed. They landed last week though so now I know what to do when I'm bored at work!

Just tried here as well, also only got 1 point for "expert flyer"

I have also had a couple of those searches where it earns more than one point. I thought maybe I was just searching too quickly and it had added a few together.

Choice Shonky Awards.

"Qantas Frequent Flyer Toolbar. The Flying Kangaroo was taken to task because, Choice said, it " monitors your internet searches and offers very poor value in return. Limiting the points you can earn to 150 per month, it would take almost 8 years of searching to earn enough points for a one-way flight from Sydney to Melbourne. One year would get you from Sydney to Picton"."

EA, Nuk, Qantas, Kleenex, Dairy Farmers and EnergyAustralia earn Shonky Awards from Choice | News.com.au

Qantas named in Choice Shonky awards This is a case of big data, small rewards – and why does an airline want to know everything you search for on the internet, anyway? The Qantas Frequent Flyer Toolbar monitors your internet searches and offers very poor value in return. Limiting the points you can earn to 150 per month, it would take almost eight years of searching to earn enough points for a one-way flight from Sydney to Melbourne. Agree..
Unlike points for flying or credit card spend I am not spending anything here..

All I am doing is something I do many times a day in a different place.

Am yet to see any targeted ads or emails... indeed if my searches were analysed QF would see I shop around a lot, and hopefully send me better offers!

Assuming you search for things that would be considered personal to you and are not just gaming them trying to get the maximum number of points a month.

+1. I search for things that I WANT them to know I'm interested in. Eg I have a new baby, therefore I'm searching baby shops. If many people are searching the same thing, QF may decide to partner with a baby retailer for bonus points. That's win/win for me. I see it as a way of telling QF what I'm looking for. I'm also looking for J sale fares, companion fares, double SC and another gift voucher promotion similar to the one run last Christmas. I also search sale fares for 3 particular locations that I'd like to visit next year. If QF look at my searches, they'd see I'd like a direct SYD-TSV QF service.

I also have no problem with QF knowing I can read, therefore I search the SMH, The Australian, the Daily Telegraph and so on.

Of course there are things I dont want QF to know about, and I dont use their toolbar for these searches. For me, it's easy points when I'm not presently in a position to fly.

I have always presumed that the Nigerians, Americans,Chinese,Russians and others have access to my emails but I did not need a tracking service from Qantas to commercialize my Internet activity and reward me with points. Well not many points as it turns out according to the Choice Awards.

No they're not, they are purchasing your personal information at an absolute bargin price.

Qantas already has all my personal information - name, DOB, address, phone number, seating preferences, job title, employer's name, etc etc etc.

what they're getting from my use of the toolbar is not personal. Mostly so far I've searched for information on the Virgin FF benefits I wish Qantas would also offer, like hotel status, free confirmed upgrades, family pooling. It might not be many points a month, but it's about the same as doing a big shop at woollies - and they're getting much more personal information from that!
