A very quick guide;

As far as I know...
Always ER (refurb'ed):
-QF7/8 SYD-DFW-BNE-SYD
-QF27/28 SYD/SCL

Usually (but not necessarily always) a refurbished aircraft:
-QF51/52 BNE/SIN
-QF15/16 BNE/LAX
-QF107/108 SYD/LAX/NYC

More likely to be older config:
-QF5/6 SYD/SIN
-QF21/22 SYD/NRT
-QF63/64 SYD/JNB
-QF127/128 SYD/HKG *(when operated by a 747, will be older config with first class - note that it is more often operated by an A380)

Apologies if I missed any 747 routes.

Thanks.
Just to clarify when you say refurbed aircraft that could mean the 3 class config or the 4 class config couldn't it ? Where only the latter has F but both have skybeds mkII in J ?

Thanks.

All refurbished aircraft are 3 class configuration with economy, premium economy and business class (with MKII sky beds) :)
There are only a couple of 747s left with F class and they are unrefurbished. The only route they are scheduled on is QF127/8 (a couple of days a week). Most of the unrefurbished aircraft are 3 class but with the older style J seats.

There are three F class birds and they are well utilised, often to Joburg and Narita as well as HKG:

Ok cheers for the info.
The couple of 747s around with F class have the same F class as the 388s don't they ?

So if flying F to HKG it doesn't really matter if you're on a 388 or 744 does it ?
Finally starting to get my head around this, thanks to all for your contributions on this thread.

Is the above link the same as this ?
http://www.qantas.com.au/infodetail/flying/inTheAir/ourAircraft/744-14P52J32PY255Y.pdf

So the 747 F is always different from 388 F ?

I thought the only F was sold as J or something like that ?

Click the link, it has a picture of the seat

A380
(who is that man, looks familiar)

Note that QF51/52 operated by 744 means its often quite lightly loaded and hence often has J award available (I have 2 U class awards on QF51 in a few weeks time). But when using as a means to burn AA miles to Europe, be aware that any BA operates services will include a cash component of fuel fines. So if wanting to minimise the costs, considering connecting to AY82 to Helsinki (always fun going to HEL and beyond after spending some time in SIN).

Guys totally off topic for this thread but didn't want to start a new one just for a simple question...

I know some (most?) days are now the 388 but for the other days does the 744 that flies QF127/8 have the skybed mkII in J ?
Or does this depend on the day and luck etc ?

They use the F birds, so Skybed Mk1
