Sydney Qantas Club members will be treated to a prize gourmet pie as part of a new trial that will see the airline hold a series of specialist pop-up dining events in Qantas Clubs across the country. The first will be held in Sydney on September 12th.

Partnering with some of Australia’s best food innovators, the pop-up dining experiences will give Qantas Club members the chance to enjoy signature creations from a cross section of the country’s best chefs and restaurateurs in the comfort of the lounge.

The first trial will be held in partnership with hospitality and entertainment group, Merivale, and give members an exclusive tasting of their latest business venture, Bert’s Pies, a signature creation designed by Alex Woolley, head chef at the three hatted restaurant, est.

The dish was the winner in a competition Merivale held between their chefs to create the ultimate meat pie. The Sydney Qantas Club will be the only site outside select Merivale venues to stock the pie in a special one off tasting event.

Qantas Domestic Executive Manager Customer Experience Samantha Taranto said she hoped that the pop-up dining events would be popular with customers.

“We’re really excited to introduce the pop-up restaurant initiative to our Qantas Club members,” Ms Taranto said.

“Our Clubs provide a great space for members to work, relax and unwind between or before flights. They are also the perfect place for our customers to enjoy good food and wine.

“Qantas has a great reputation for partnering with Australia’s best suppliers and challenging the notion of traditional airline food.

“Pop-up restaurants are just another way Qantas is pushing the boundaries in how they source, prepare and serve food to ensure customers enjoy a quality and unique dining experience while travelling.”

Ms Taranto said following a successful pilot with Merivale, the pop-up dining events are scheduled to appear in other lounges including Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth throughout the year.

Sounds like a good initiative, but hopefully it becomes a more common occurrence, sort of a lesser version of island dining.

Is there an attribution of where that wall of text was copied from?

It's from the QF 'news room' page

Edit : blarg, I didn't see Markis' update :|

Will this be in the domestic or the business lounge...I am leaving Syd in the morning so will probably miss it anyway.

I assume Qantas Club as it was specifically mentioned, instead of Domestic Business Lounge, their other term ;)

I would not be surprised if its both!

It's also in the Sep edition of Australian Way, I read it yesterday but didn't have the time to post itImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1378115225.653620.jpg

When/where is the first (or next) tasting held?

I may need 3 or 4 for a proper taste test....

Nice ... Well spun by the Qantas media mob too ;) [pretty sure they are just paid commercial offerings.... Qantas pays nothing, leases space and the companies either pay nothing or a small fee]

Yeah it's great. Wonder if it'll still be going when I get to the airport at about 6:30pm. Wonder if I'll be bothered to go to the QP instead of J lounge.

Considering the ravenous scenes I've witnessed in there before, I'm not so sure ;)

Great for you. ;) Not so great for others.

I generally visit the Qantas Club as well as Business Lounge if food is too "gourmet" looking for me.
