I am flying business to Orlando. But from LAX to Orlando I assume that it will be first class via AA as I assume they don't have a business class. I was wondering if in first on an AA flight at what rate will I earn status credits, Business or First?

Cheers

It depends on whether or not you are booked on an AA or QF flight number.
If its on QF codeshare it will be J status credits, if on an AA flight number it will be F status credits.

Thanks for the confirmation, unfortunately it is a QF codeshare so it will be J status credits :(

A lesson learnt for the future, along with instant upgrade fares ;)

Can you help a newbie and explain "Instant upgrade fares" part of your comment?
In the future I will QF to LAX and then AA everywhere else within the US.

When you go to book a flight on AA (or many other US carriers for that matter) they often have "instant upgrade" fares which often sell for only a few dollars or few hundred more than flex economy but significantly less than first.

they are essentially a deeply discounted non flexible first

Any linking flight booked with QF ticket (ie next leg after or before say MEL-LAX) on AA will be J/D rather than A.

if you have a second flight though it should be A, or if done on a round the world business (DONE4) it will be A

It is (or was) technically possible to get an 081/ QF ticket issued with an AA flight number getting F Status Credits for the connecting AA flight.

That should be "Any linking 2 class AA flight booked on a QF flight number ..." - the three class transcons do differ.
