This is an exclusive benefit available to Platinum and Platinum One members on selected Qantas operated domestic and international flights.

Just curious Red Roo, but how does one interpret this statement on the QF Gold Privileges page:

Preferential access to selected Qantas Classic Award seats

Qantas provides preferential access, when available, to selected Qantas Classic Award seats to Silver, Gold and Platinum Frequent Flyers. On selected flights, preferential access for Gold and Platinum members may be above the access available to Silver and Bronze members
Given that I've always found the same award results when searching under my account (Gold) and that of my partner (Bronze), were Gold FFs previously able to have Award seats released (and the comment is outdated)?

Whenever I've found availability in P, U, Z and X (via ExpertFlyer), these have always been available for booking under both accounts. I've never found an Award seat through the QF site that didn't match the shared (GDS) availability.

Given you have stated that only Platinum (and above) can access additional Award seats over the phone, how does one access these advertised 'preferential' Award seats? :)

Of course, if there is additional availability loaded into the system on certain routes (and I just haven't done the right searches), then my apologies! :)

The additional allocation can indeed apear online.

Looking at a BNE-MEL flight option around Easter last week showed the new "awards" column on the left. I was not logged on. Some were showing available for awards some were not.

I logged on and as a WP a lot more of these became available.

If you're logged in using your Frequent Flyer number, the system with recognise that you're a Gold member and show you availability based on this. If this is the same availability as a Bronze member, it may be an indication that there are still plenty of seats available.

Thank you both for your incredibly quick replies!

I usually plan Award travel far in advance (when availability is generally greater, as opposed to last-minute), so that would explain why I've been seeing the same Awards between the two accounts.

You learn something new every day! :)
