Dear <serfty>,

I am pleased to update you regarding QantasLink's move at
Sydney Domestic Airport.

For travel from 15 August 2013, all QantasLink flights will depart from, and arrive at, Qantas Domestic Terminal 3 (T3), rather than Terminal 2 (T2).

We look forward to providing you with a range of benefits from being in T3, including:

  • Smoother connections between regional, domestic and
    international services;
  • Reduced check-in times with Faster, Smarter check-in facilities including access to Q Card Readers*, Self-Check Kiosks and Bag Drop;
  • Access to Qantas lounges for eligible customers including
    The Qantas Club and the Qantas Business Lounge^; and
  • A refreshed retail and dining experience.
For customers visiting Terminal 3 for the first time, we recommend allowing additional time prior to scheduled flight departure to become familiar with the terminal's location and check-in facilities.

Should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me directly or visit qantas.com

Yours sincerely,

Corporate Sales
Qantas Airways Limited

Should be interesting to watch the congestion from the QP!

I'll be using T2 for VA only. Will avoid Jetstar out of SYD. Looking towards T3 for my QantasLink flights.

I hope they remember to switch the signs from the Railway Station!!

Regards,

BD

Got an email re my Jan 2014 flight. " .....We're pleased to announce that all Qantaslink flights will now depart from Sydney Airport's Terminal 3.

This means that your Qantaslink flight from Sydney on Thursday, 2 January 2014 will now depart from Terminal 3 rather than Terminal 2.

The new terminal will offer easier connections to other Qantas domestic flights and a range of faster, smarter check-in options. Eligible customers will have access to Terminal 3's Qantas Club Lounge and Business Lounge.*"

I am interested to know what you found so bad about T2. What are your normal flight patterns?

Guess it would depend on your status, if you are used to the domestic Sydney J lounge then the T2 lounge would appear a little scummy, did to me.

I got the email this morning as well, regarding one of my flights from SYD-CBR on QLink. It says "This means that your Qantaslink flight from Sydney on Saturday, 31 August 2013 will now depart from Terminal 3 rather than Terminal 2." I'm fairly sure that it was leaving from T3 anyway though...

Yep all SYD-CBR flights have been departing from T3 for a while now.

If they ever went from T2, it was before I moved there in 2005.

I've never flown QF out of T2, and I've been on a lot of Dash 8s out of SYD :) (and far too many flights between SYD and CBR).

CBR flights NEVER operated out of T2, they have always been at T3.

Pretty sure there is a whole thread dedicated to T2 ;)

For me personally it feels like a barnyard 90% of the time, snaking queues of people lined up for slower old school check in and by the nature of the carriers that fly out of it - A lot of leisure and infrequent flyers which can make for a slow / frustrating experience.

Terminal and gates are often a mess, it just feels like there is little care to the appearance of the place. I *believe* this is because the airport is responsible for the presentation of it and the carriers have little influence (that is what VA have communicated to us in the past when questioning the state of the place), as opposed to T3 which QF owns, or at least used to own AFAIK. There have also been extraction problems with some of the 'restaurant' operators in T2 which leads to a lingering smell of French Fries ;) So overall just feels a bit cheap and nasty for my personal taste in comparison to T3.

The only thing T2 has going for it is Virgins premium entry from the curb, unfortunately into a pretty ordinary lounge offering though.

Perhaps the reduction of flights from T2 with QFLink moving will help reduce the cram over there - but personally I don't really care as I won't be over there much anymore!

T2 has a better choice of food vendors however.

I love grabbing a boost (for) or mcmuffin (before) a early morning flight

I rest my case hahaha. Boost sugar drinks and fat carb loaded Maccas... Not for me! T3 has its share of heart attack and obesity meals too ;)

Each to their own though of course :)
