After reading the disgruntled posts in this thread and the responce(s) might I suggest that somebody needs to change their handle to Red Herring which is what we are being thrown

Maybe the company could also change its name to Flying Fish to go with the Herring handle

Surely a company executive would have the smarts to realise that Qantas have made their business decision.

Rio Tinto have started using VA on some of the Pilbara trips. Big call but plenty of colleagues are back to 0 status on their trips. Interesting but apparently it equates to a decent saving.

My pre June JASAs clearly say "Any seat reward" below the payment section in the bit that says "tax information."

My post June JASAs also say this so I suspect Gusty's booking has been stuffed up by the QF phone consultant.

Time to call for the record of the phone call "for quality and training purposes."

Is this new?
It doesn't get a mention in any of my pre-June ASA itineraries, just the credit card details.

Edit: On closer inspection it is mentioned at the bottom of the first page under " Additional Fees".

My itineraries show the same as Noreen & asg29w, also were Domestic so perhaps International are different.

Received the following in a BA survey I've just completed....

British Airways and Avios are considering a new idea that will allow people to use Avios to discount the cost of a British Airways flight.

Currently members of the Avios scheme can redeem Avios for reward flights, although these reward flights are subject to availability.

This new idea will be available on all flights and members will need fewer Avios for this benefit. When booking these discounted flights, members will earn Avios points to use on future bookings.

It doesn't mention whether tier points will be earned though.

If you're asking the question, you may as well as them whether they'll be opening Avios up to Australian and New Zealand residents again.

It sounds a bit more like "pay + points", than *ASA.

Although who knows if (and how) they would implement it.

What do they have to lose by opening it up to Aus and NZ again? I thought the relationship with QF was pretty damaged - hence they cancelled the QF codeshares on BKK-LHR and HKG-LHR!

My latest attempt (yesterday) to book a MASA was (and still is) a cluster fudge. I rang, and asked for an 'Any Seat Award at Classic Seat Pricing'. They said there would be a $35 phone booking fee, and after a few minutes of back and forth, the agent realised it was an Any Seat not a Classic I was booking. OK so no biggie, that was sorted. Points were deducted and co-pay processed. I see a pending auth on my card.

Then the fun starts. I receive an email at around 1am this morning with a statement saying my card had been declined, for an amount around 3 times what I should have been charged. I call "oh we tried to debit your card and it was declined". At 1am, I obviously didn't have a good agent (and was actually pretty rude and effectively told me it was my banks problem).

So QF have taken an auth out on the phone at the time of booking and queued it off to be ticketed. Then, ticketing attempts to re-debit the card, and the existing auth is ignored. I'm using a Visa Debit which usually only has one or two hundred on it on purpose, and the charge had depleted the majority of the balance.

QF now have to fax my bank asking the pending auth to be dropped, so they can re-charge the ticket.

C'mon QF. Bring them back online. I could provide another card to book, but I didn't want to. Simple as that. Why should my cash be tied up for another 7 days when you charge it again? That's simply bad business!

For my 2 successful j/masa last week I was careful not to say "classic award". I asked for an ASA to purchase a U fare. I haven't checked every post but it seems that many people who have hassles ask for something like a classic award as an ASA. Basically mixing award terminology. Perhaps try avoiding that situation.

The shame with that is that is specifically the wording that Red Roo advised us all to use... :shock:

I also did not use the Classic Award wording. I asked for "2 business Any Seat Awards booked into the U fare bucket". That got my agent straight on to what I needed. It was only a quotation this time so hopefully when I call back later to book, the process goes smoothly again.

From what I've read, if you got an agent who knew what they were doing, I would've booked it there and then, knowing you could cancel it later without penalty. From what I've read, if you got an agent who knew what they were doing, I would've booked it there and then, knowing you could cancel it later without penalty. I can only hope you do have success in finding an agent who is as knowledgeable as this one, though, reading this thread, unfortunately the chances don't seem too high. Good luck!

Ha, ha, maybe I should have. Well I've just rung back and got it sorted but not without a small hiccup. This agent (I missed her name) also seemed to know the process and came with up with a lower co-pay, or so I thought. She had booked one of the tickets into U and the other into I, apparently this is what she had been advised to do, so the co-pay was actually per person and not total. Luckily I caught this before the call ended and said I had been quoted a much lower co-pay and was she sure that both tickets shouldn't go into U. Anyway about 5-10 minutes on hold and she came back on with it all sorted as per the quote I received earlier on.

This is the first one I have booked since the removal from the web, but from the horror stories listed in this thread and the other one, it seems like things might be improving, slowly.

Well it took two calls to book an ASA - the first time I was careful to use the exact words as indicated on this thread. I was bluntly told that I could not book an ASA seat by telephone that I has to do it on line. I explained that this has changed recently and they now had to be booked by telephone. After explaining this twice - I was hung up on. The second call - they knew exactly what I wanted and were very helpful. It is very hard to understand why all staff are unable to respond to this request when it is a Qantas product - I am even more disturbed to be hung up on when I am simply requesting a product that Qantas advertises. I am a loyal Qantas customer - but there is something seriously wrong here. It is bad enough that they do not know the product - but the attitude that went with this is just appalling.

I would be putting in a formal complaint via the web (and not red roo), re-education is needed as well as a manners course.
