I think that most posters on the discussion have come to the conclusion that the meet and greet FA has already taken into account that there would be no effect on the amenity and enjoyment of other passengers, if there was, the offer would not be made, for example, if F pax objected to a glass of wine leaving the F cabin to someone in Y that has done 200K miles a year with QF/AA/BA then that is OK with me, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, but apparently, they don't care at the moment seeing the odd glass of wine leaving the F cabin.

IMHO I would stick to my F seat any hour of any day rather than join the upstairs J "lounge". I literally only sat on the bench once and I found it uncomfortble and that whole area just a little tight, space wise. i suppose this is to be expected. As regards the odd glass of wine leaving the F cabin. I am not sure anyone would notice and even if they did I suspect that the occupants of that cabin would simply say good luck to the receiptient!

how would the meet and greet FA know, at anytime until around and hour or so before landing, that they weren't going to run out of x/y/z? business pax care about it when they are later told the item they want is no longer available because it has run out. You ask for a champagne breakfast to be told 'I'm sorry it's all gone'... even if Y passenger in business class lounge has just one glass, that could be the difference between another pax being told they can or cant have their champagne breakfast.

200k a year in economy? that's 5 or so return trips to europe from australia... (assuming bonuses) and possible LESS than the cost of a SINGLE premium class ticket. why not improve the economy product rather than have to give out sweeteners from business or first?

except if it is my second glass of bubbly. :) (this comment will only make sense if you have read the thread on champagne running out in F....)

That is the reason why I declined, the unknown impact on the paying/points J pax, so if you run out of champers on the next flight, it won't be my fault. My next flight is SYD-DXB-SYD in J next Tuesday for a rare holiday anyway, so I guess I get to see the other side of the story

and never mind how it affects the amenity and enjoyment of other passengers? (nothing against the passenger)
In this particular case it is hard to see how it would and I would trust the FA to know what they were doing. I have to admit if all my Comtes de Champagne was disappearing down the back I would be a little less tolerant......

I would not hesitate to take up such an invitation to use the onboard business lounge.

I wish I was able to use the bar area in business on VS when I was flying premium economy.

I guess this is where the judgement of the FA comes into account, say there are still a number of unopened bottles well into the flight, one glass may not be missed, but if there is only one bottle left, certainly none should go to the OWE Y passenger, this is where I guess, a good FA knows how to judge these things.

hiw do you know they didn't give a platinum in business class a glass of the taittinger shortly after takeoff and then you missed out? I am wary of cabin crew giving out stuff since its been the second time now I've had things run out.

surely FAs should be anticipating the needs of premium class passengers, not anticipating how much they will NOT need and how much they can then give away?

As someone who has, quite recently had the displeasure of there not being enough champagne in F for a second glass... and also scoring a glass of F Champagne while flying Y... I think it's up to the airline to stock enough product to satisfy their customers. Obviously F passengers come first, and I'd be staggered if QF was pouring the good stuff for WP's down the cheap seats if they don't have enough to keep pouring for paying F passengers.

Anyway, the J lounge isn't a bad spot. It comes in very handy if you want to have a chat to a fellow pax if you're not sitting next to them. You can strike up a decent conversation in the queue for the loo in J... especially since they've cut the number of toilets in J. But it's not the kind of place I'd want to sit by myself for any extended period of time. And in F, you have a guest seat in your area anyway.

To the OP: you have a strong moral compass. Well done, quite rare.

The only time we properly used the J lounge was aboard Nancy-Bird to LHR when they couldn't seem to keep the cabin temperature below 28 degrees at the back of the J cabin. Was nice and cool in the lounge though.

I had this offered a few months ago but declined because I wanted to sleep and thought it might have been a PITA to go all the way up there for a short while and come back.

For those who would accept, how long would you stay there before you are deemed to "overstay your welcome"?

I am surprised the OP got the offer in the first place; I've had 45 Y and 4 Y+ QF A380 flights and never been offered the use of the J Lounge.

I would decline the offer if I was trying to get some sleep, but at pretty much any other time, I would be on it like a shot.

I would say that QF12 has a lot to do with it, apparently the J Lounge is a ghost town most of the flight, plus this was the sixth time in a row i had the same meet and greet FA. Also I was only in LA for one night, so had the same QF11/12 crew, so I guess a good rapport was starting to build, probably the offer would not come on the first or second meeting.

I would have stayed a couple of hours, but if there was a space issue with J pax coming to the lounge would leave immediately and go back to Y
