Midflight QF12 I pulled out the laptop to do some work and the meet and greet OWE staff member offered to shift me from Y to the upstairs J lounge for a few hours if I wished. However, I did not accept the invitation, even though there was room in the upstairs J lounge area, I felt that it went beyond what I should accept and that the onboard J lounge should only be used for paying (or flight redemption on points) J passengers at all times. I am going SYD-DXB in J next week anyway so maybe this was a factor in my decision. So my question, if OWE's in Y are invited to the A380 J lounge should they accept the invitation or not. I personally feel that it goes beyond what a OWE in Y should accept.

I would have accepted it in a heart beat. I don't see how it's any different to accepting an op-up, and it's the sort of thing that airline staff can (and will sometimes) do to help people.

I think that my issue would be that I would always have to be aware of what was happening in the on-board J Lounge regarding space, would hate to think that I was so preoccupied with my work that I didn't realise that there was no space left and a genuine J traveler needing to use the on-board lounge for whatever reason walked away thinking that the on-board J lounge was full

No doubt the offer wouldn't have been made if they thought this could have been more than a minor possibility.

Really there's only 5 seats in a twin and a triple side by side.

IME, it's rarely used by one or two pax, let alone 5.

What I don't understand is how anyone can actually get work done in that lounge area? It's too dark and there are no tables.

Where the needs of me and an arms-length company come into conflict, I tend to put my own needs before that of the company. Here, I don't even think there was a conflict though?

If its something offered to you for being a top-tier FF then by all means you should accept it..

Otherwise you shouldn't check-in at F check-in whilst flying Y if going by that mindset.. ;)

I say any privilege or gift offered for being a valued customer (WP) I would happily accept, enjoy the privileges!

OK, you guys have convinced me, next time the FA makes the offer, I will take it up, the only time I have flown J on the 380 was QF11 and then I noticed that the lounge was heavily used, but then again, when you are leaving at 1.00pm there is a lot of time to kill before you feel sleepy, guess on QF12 most J passengers crash for the night relatively soon into the flight and I guess that the J lounge is like a bit of a ghost town through the night, hence why the FA made the offer

This mentality of being altruistic towards an arms length company is pretty foreign to me. Were you motivated by:
- the airline's sake,
- the paid/points J pax,
- the principle that one should only get what one pays for
- to not get the FA in trouble or
- something else?

Personally, the only reason I've ever turned down offers like this has been be to avoid getting in trouble somebody kind enough to offer to help me.

I expect I would have accepted just to see the area since I haven't been in J on a A380 yet!

Our crew are happy to assist wherever they can. Please feel free to take them up on such offers in future. :)

As Serfty suggested, the lounge is rarely used anyway. Given that J seats are much more comfortable than the lounge seats, not many J pax will want to use the lounge, even if its for short period of times.

Totally agree. Once upon a time, the CSM let me sit opposite my girlfriend who was in 5A ;) It was only for a short period of time but enough time for some Comtes de Champagne [and also enough time for me to miss the Y meal service, as I one row behind in in 50C].

If you have some J PJs from a previous flight - you might slip them on and then go to the Lounge and then all feelings of 'not belonging' should vanish :) .

believe it or not...SOME F/As offer/do the 'little extras' because they CAN/WANT TO  ... they also are a part of this forum..and read topics... and sometimes reach the conclusion ... 'why do/did we bother'!!!

EXACTLY what I was going to post!

J Pax are more than happy in J...and as a WP the OP most certainly deserves the opportunity if offered.

Makes good sense to me, guess that the meet and greet OWE FA's are skilled in what they decide to offer and have probably already taken account of any impact on higher level passengers, so in future if they offer something, likely I will accept
