Mel F checkin and lounge opening times

Speaking of the Melbourne F lounge (putting this here because I don't think this warrants its own thread) but anyone managed to get more than the one guest into there? I've never tried myself, but would love to show the family the delights of the place - wife + 2 teenage kids on our next O/S trip. We'll be flying J on QF29 to HKG on Boxing Day... a 3pm flight so would be in there around midday (I'm a WP).

Never done it in MEL but have taken 4 kids (with both of us WP) into the SYD F Lounge many times.
AFAIK this is now covered formally in the QF Family Lounge access on the website.

Looking pretty positive here for you freepyjamas :)

In addition to your normal guest allowance you may also bring up to two children, between ages 4 and 17, into lounges operated by Qantas.

Apologies for reviving this thread.

I'm flying F for the first time on QF9 later this month, and wanted to see how I could make the best of it. Is it at all possible to check in prior to 3 hours if the F check in area at MEL is open (and for once actually flying F), or is that strictly for dom-int connections? Wouldn't mind catching brunch in the lounge and am trying to plan the Chauffeur Drive booking accordingly.

I flew QF93 on Monday morning and was at the F check in about 05.30 am (3 hours 45 minutes before departure. Because I only had hand luggage the lady was able to force check me in. I was flying in J as a WP.

Maybe different if you're actually in F with luggage. :)

What was good was that the spa had first appointments at 07.30am, the facial and neck massage was very nice.

As it is an A380 flight, you can normally check in around 3.5 hours early. you could try earlier but they may not have opened the flight up yet

Have manged on several occasions to check in 4 hours before the Flight and on one occasion 4.5 hours before the flight. Only issue was that had to leave the luggage with the F Checkin crew. That didnt present any issues to me.

Enjoy the Lounge and F :D

Thanks! My only concern is that QF93 leaves early during winter at about 0915, so I'm guessing the F checkin won't reopen for QF9 until about 1155 according to nlagalle (unless there's another F flight in there somewhere that I've missed) - in which case sitting around the QF checkin desks with luggage waiting for them to open would be quite a boring start to the experience!

No F on either of them so they won't keep the check in area open! :(

And I believe QF35 is a 10am departure anyway, which leaves a good hour or two they can close up.

I thought since the changes to the hkg flights that the F desk didn't actually close til the evening.

I could be wrong but when I checked in for QF9 I checked in just after 11.30 from memory.

Ok well have just spoken the the F Lounge ladies and they have confirmed the following.

Melbourne F Check In Suite opens at 4 am and stays open untill they have checked in all passengers on QF133 or untill the flight is closed. which is scheduled to depart at 5.30 so normal latest would be 4.45 pm.

The First Class suite does NOT close between flights

Hope that this helps everyone

Open 4 am then closes at 4.45pm
