OK, its Sunday and things are a bit slow between flights.

Something I've noticed for years. On my activity statement, SCs earned on QF flights have a "~" next to them, with the legend saying:

Eligible flight (Qantas, QantasLink or Jetstar segment) counted towards status attain/retain.

The separate posting of the "double" portion of DSCs, and indeed SCs earned on other OW airlines (JL, CX) don't have "~" next to them, (the latter presumably because they are not QF, QFL of JQ), but it seems a bit silly to have the ~ next to some eligible flights but not other eligible flights, and not against DSCs of an eligible QF, QFL or JQ flight!

Doesn't matter a damn, but anyone know why this ~ qualification is there? If there is an ineligible QF etc flight, then presumably the SCs are posted without a ~ ? And if so, doesn't this look the same as 'counting' SCs earned on other OW airlines?

My Classic Awards show "0" in the SC column, so the lack of "~" is then kinda moot.

Not arguing with you serfty :) just wondering about a (trivial) inconsistency.

If you do not have 4 QF flights with a "~" next to them you do not get status no matter how many SC's and OW flights you have taken
Introduced when the the 4 flight rules was enforced. This stopped those in the USA getting QF status and lounge access, without ever seeing a Qantas aircraft let alone flying on an Qantas aircraft

I think you;re getting confused between eligible for "status attain/retain" and status credit total. OW flights are not eligible for attain/retain but are included in the SC totals. As the double status credits post separately they do not get a ~ as that has already been given for the base SC that have posted for the flight. Basically you do not get 2x~ for double status credits. It is not double eligible flights, only double SC.

The "~" itself refers to the flight itself being a qualifying flight for the purposes of determining whether you have your 4 eligible QF/JQ/3K flights.

As the DSC posting is a posting of a promotional benefit, not of a flight, it doesn't really make sense to count it as an eligible flight.

Ah, yep, that makes sense, thanks (and to others pointing out the same thing).

Onto the next mystery of the universe.

Qantas gave me flights to and from Sydney earlier this year. They didn't earn anything, not even a "~", which I could have used when I fronted up to the QP in SYD urgently needing a shower after the flight from JFK and realised that my onward flight to CBR was in a Dash-8 with no J cabin. I had enough points for SG, but only two eligible "squiggles", so I was still NB/LTS.

"Oh, the humanity!" I groaned, and she let me in, wrinkling her sweet nose.
