Spent an hour today trying to use QF Perth to Tapei. With Per HKG scrapped, only option is jetstar to Singapore with rubbish routing schedules to Tapei. Trying to royally rape a DSC offer and it's too damn hard to be loyal CX it will be. Does QF want the business?

Yeah I saw that. It's a business trip and my boss is traveling with me and we are red eying it to hit the ground running in Taipei. We can't add another 4 hour flight plus waiting for connection.

Personally, I would be taking the Malaysian Airlines option for the following 3 reasons:

1. Outbound Connection is excellent and you arrive in TPE at 6.20am instead of the later CX arrival at 11am. Inbound connection, not so good.
2. If you are flying economy then typically MH has better seat pitch. Economy in CX can be painful.
3. Whilst both CX and MH are quite poor QFF points and status credit earning......at least the MH fares are cheaper than CX.

I'm confused - I thought it was poor points earn but the standard SC earn?

You are correct - you get the standard status credits as per any other oneworld airline. But points earn is very poor on MH, no matter what class of travel.

Given that the base mileage calculation is 75% in certain then I expect your would get fewer SCs as well.

Just comparing earning (assuming D class fares):

PER-KUL-TPE on MH would earn:

PER-KUL (2575 miles) = 1931 points / [-]80[/-] 100 SCs
KUL-TPE (2019 miles) = 2523 points / 80 SCs

Total earn 4,454 points / [-]160[/-] 180 SCs

PER-HKG-TPE on CX

PER-HKG (3754 miles) = 4692 points / 120 SCs
HKG-TPE (501 miles) = 626 points / 40 SCs

Total 5,318 points / 160 SCs

So an extra 900 points. Each way.

For a one-stop flight, there are plenty of other options as well, such as SQ via SIN, TG via BKK, etc. However, CX has arguably the best schedules in this case.
