Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Thank you. Bargain! Pity I can't catch public transport to the airport in Sydney in the morning (6.05am dep).

limewood, you go there often? This will be my third visit thanks to AFF. The first time was a cash fare in Y as I had no points, but on sale, and from memory $400 to get 50SCs I needed to get to Gold the first time. That time I was there the whole day, and spent most of it in a cafe called C-Bar by the water. If I go to Benny's, I can catch the shuttle bus to Rydges.
My last trip was a JASA turn around so I didn't visit anywhere.

Thanks - as I said I spent a day in C-Bar two years ago, so a combination of Benny's and The Brewery may be in order. I've now had two conference calls booked in my diary between 1pm and 3pm so I won't have time to go to Maggie.

I was going to catch the bus in to town but ran out of time as someone scheduled a conference call for me at 12 .. I would have been cutting it too fine. I will catch the bus back to the airport later though.

Benny's is closed!
I am sitting in the lobby of Holiday Inn as it's by the main road which has free Townsville CBD Wifi (which is very fast). For others who come to Townsville, Vodafone 3G is very fast here too - 4-5MBit so you can easily work on it too (Yes, I know Telstra would be faster, by my work provides Vodafone).

I will visit The Brewery later this afternoon before heading back to the airport.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I'm popping my status run cherry on friday, just to confirm - QF974 and QF975 are the same plane in the turn around from Bne-Tsv back again to Bne? It's a 45 min connection but I've never had one that tight before. I think I've even got the same seat haha

QF only flys BNE TSV, so it's always the same plane.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Have my first status run next Tuesday as well and I am in the same situation curiost where I have a 45 min flight connection in HBA but I am quite confident it is the same plane.

QF560 0645 - 0735 CBR-SYD
QF1019 0925 - 1115 SYD-HBA
QF1020 1200 - 1350 HBA-SYD
QF771 1520 - 1615 SYD-CBR

That's the one! Exact same flights. I have 2 of these lined up over the next fortnight to well and truly break the Platinum barrier.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I've found two more new ones to the above ex-SYD in my own "guess and check" type method with the award booking tool

1) SYD-xPER-PHE = 140 SC for 54,653 points or 390 points/SC
2) SYD-xPER-ZNE: 140 SC for 54,448 points or 389 points/SC

Current SYD ones on the list which needing updating for the amount of points redemption (it's gone up again) with the following:

SYD-xBNE-TSV = 100 SCfor 37819 points or 378 points/SC (day return possible)
SYD-xPER-KTA = 140 SC for 53539 points or 382 points/SC (red-eye back possible)
SYD-xBNE-ISA = 100 SC for 39843 points or 398 points/SC (day return possible)

IMO Sydney has the worst points/SC options!!

It seems as if the points required have increased by appr. 15% for all of them since your post...

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Have all these JASA's increased in price today? I've been waiting to book some JASA's and it seems that today they have all jumped in points. This is just a summary of a few of them

ADL-xSYD-OOL = was100 SC for 38179 points now 43,159
ADL-xBNE-TSV = was 120 SC for 38706 points now 43,686
ADL-xSYD-CBR = was 100 SC for 36014 points now 36,248
SYD-xBNE-TSV = was 100 SC for 37819 points now 42,799
MEL-xSYD-ASP = was 120 SC for 39466 points now 44,491

or is this just a glitch in the system?

its really changed the value of these.

They haven't been changed today, they just haven't been updated in a while. The post that you referenced was just for the ex-Sydney departures which I updated by searching each one, and it does reflect what you have found. Departures from other cities should be updated, but the difference won't be huge. The Sydney ones I updated increased by 1000-2000ish points

They have jumped up today - I know that yesterday they were a lot cheaper - I was going to book so,e yesterday and wanted to check one more thing and they have jumped by a few thousand points. I don't have the details of what they were yesterday but there definitely has been a significant jump since yesterday and the day before.

The domestic sale ended midnight last night i believe so it probably has more to do with the fact that airfares were cheaper yesterday and the JASA's reduced accordingly than there being an increase.

That could make sense then. So disappointed.

There will be another soon. Just check back every day and once the sale is back on check the flights you want. If you cant wait then...

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

SYD-BNE-TSV is 42,799 now.. was under 40,000 before

Oh bugger. I redid the ex-Sydney routes not in sale period, it was right after they'd announced the DSC offer and after a sale had just ended so the points weren't reduced at that point. I think now they've just increased as per Qantas doing sneaky points increases for redemption. The 37,819 was definitely not in sale period. How odd.
