Stats on how many QF members on each member level

I have just been through the investor presentations for the past few years and there is no mention of stats in the FF sections of the presentations.

They only quote whole numbers to the nearest 0.1 of a million.

I think the only way we may ever see anything more detailed available publically is if QF ever divested of the QFF brand and therefore had to make more information available for the potential buyer or IPO or whatever option they choose.

That's why I went back to 2008 as that was when they were structuring QFF for different ownership. It was around that time that I am sure someone posted about an investor briefing that include the 60K WP number (plus others) that I have been quoting since.

You're quite right. Someone posted the actual powerpoint presentation in which there were a few bullets on the breakdown of QFF membership across the different bands. IIRC it even mentioned the number of CLs. I can't seem to track down the thread but someone may have saved the ppt.

I was browsing all last night until nearly 2 in the morning and also couldn't find it, but there is a thread on this site, possibly with a link to the slides. Someone really should have saved it

Personally I know a CL member who got CL as a result of a one year presidency of a national association and has had it comped ever since, who flies less than I do and has less power to direct other people's flying less than I do. Sure, he flew a lot during his one year at the top - but hasn't done since.

CL is overrated IMO. And certainly shouldn't be looked at as being the "holy grail" of FF'ing.

It just means they treat you a little more exclusively, and it has NOTHING to do with how much you fly, or where you fly, or even *if* you fly at all. Its basically a popularity contest in the schoolyard where Qantas is picking people to seem generous too, more than likely in the hope of receiving some mutal benefit.

CL is overrated IMO. And certainly shouldn't be looked at as being the "holy grail" of FF'ing.

It just means they treat you a little more exclusively, and it has NOTHING to do with how much you fly, or where you fly, or even *if* you fly at all. Its basically a popularity contest in the schoolyard where Qantas is picking people to seem generous too, more than likely in the hope of receiving some mutal benefit.

They get a F standard lounge for domestic flights, more upgrades and better service - it is pretty much as good as it gets in Australian FF tiers.

I totally agree it is not about how much they fly - more about how much they can influence other people to fly with them (either directly or indirectly).

It also had a side benefit for me as my boss's boss was upset by QF, he got CL and I got status matched EXP to WP

I spied the iPad which had the loyalty breakdown last week, I can't remember the exact numbers but the breakdown looked something like this for a SYD-CAN morning flight on a 737:

Bronze: 30-40ish
Silver: mid 20s
Gold: mid 20s
Plat and Plat 1: 10-15sih (which I think is a lot!)
VIP: 0 (does anyone know who constitutes as a VIP?)

If anyone else spies the iPad I've love to know!

Probably a little skewed by the CBR & SYD demography and frequently flying population/route but that seems pretty believable ratios/proportions to me.....

I think you are right - based on the stats that we think we know (60K WP) with approx 3 million active bronze only 2% of pax should be WP. So on a 737 with 156 in whY that would only be 3 or 4 WP - probably a few more given WP are more likely to be on an early flight than a late flight.

Moreover, you are likely to get a greater ratio of status PAX than there are in relation to actual members on any flight in general simply due to it likely that statused PAX simply fly more.

I had a friend who was CL before he retired - when he and his family went overseas on holiday flying discount Y all 6 of them could go to the F lounge in Sydney - doesn't seem overrated to me. . However it does seem fairly irrelevant to this board, as you can't plan or strive to become one - unless your plan includes becoming a senior public servant or CEO of a company and control millions of $ in spend (or a polly - hmm that might be the easiest route). I guess it really isn't that different to the FF program. Qantas doesn't really give a stuff about how often you fly with them - it is designed to bring profit to the company, which is why people who fly infrequently at the pointy end are rewarded with the same status as those who make a zillion flights in discount Y. Same with CL - it is all about giving senior people an incentive to put their company/dept spend with Qantas. Add in a few high profile/influential people like pollies and that is your CL.

FWIW I was on a SYD-HBA flight a number of years ago when I was still Gold and I was the only Gold on the flight and that was also the highest status on the flight.

I have been on BNE-SYD flights on a Friday afternoon when there are 20+ Platinums on the flight.

I think that says more about HBA more than anything else, who knows your SYD-HBA flight may have been on a Sunday morning or a public holiday but I take your point about the BNE-SYD flights where you would expect lots of frequent fleyrs and hence lots of Plats, especially on a Friday afternoon.
