Wearing Thongs in Business - does it affect how you are served?

I think it'd always vary per crew member, but I would be curious to see, overall, if service was different dependant on how you dressed.

As for the CASA footwear thing, if it says enclosed it specifically means no thongs, if not then things are okay. Pretty simple.

All that said, this thread does seem a little...

Its up to the individual to determine what they feel is appropriate dress regardless of the class of flight, unless they are on staff travel which has set guidelines or the style nature of dress offends someone, such as offensive slogans etc, common sense should prevail for 80% of the population on that one! As to safety, its the prime reason why I always wear good shoes, in the words of CASA:

Unprotected feet can slow departure from the airplane once outside. Imagine trying to walk through jet fuel, possibly on fire, broken glass, or sharp metal fragments without shoes to protect your feet.

Pretty much every accident where there were survivors, there were less injuries when people followed the rules, be it right shoeware or wearing seatbelts at all times, or just plain concentrating on getting off the plane versus having an argument :evil:.

It is fairly simple that row 1 should always be served first.

FEBO seems to work in the US? Albeit a long standing and iirc a published policy.




On the whole thongs thing, i'd be more concerned about evacuating the a/c in an emergency and whether I could rapidly do that in things amongst (among other potential hazards) fire, glass, broken metal. Never to mind the friction burns from the escape slide / shorts.

Whilst i'm not going to get into arguments about open toed footware, i'm a firm believer in not wearing them on aircraft for one very, very simple reason. Safety. In the unlikely event of an emergency, there is no way in hell that i'm going to be caught with anything but shoes-on. Imagine having to evacuate an aircraft in the dark, searching for an over wing exit with sharp metal all around. Slicing my feet open whilst trying to save my life and quite possibly having it cause my demise, is not something I ever want to have to consider. For this very reason, I also do not remove my shoes at any stage until we have reached cruising altitude. The majority of airline accidents happen during take off and landing. I also ensure that at Top of descent, my shoes are on and i'm in my seat good to go.

Could not agree more ...This is more a safety issue..... I have no issues with others wearing thongs on a fligh... I travel weekly for work ( so i am in business clothing) however when i travel for leisure , I always have covered footwear... The reason is noted above .....

Surely it would depend on which pair you had on. If I was wearing my good thongs I'd expect the best service. If I just had on one of my garden or beach pairs then being served 2nd or 3rd would be ok

Thongs in a plane at any time are gross. I had a disgusting pair of feet in thongs propped up on the bulkhead next to me in business on a QF 737 the other week and it wasn't pretty. I dont want to see your feet, gross.

why so? If meal choice is important you can select a seat accordingly. And if you have a favourite seat, then you at least know kn either the outbound or return you will get your choice of meal.

You know how some people wear sneakers to work and keep their formal shoes at their desk? That's why I always travel with an emergency pair of Paco Rabanne flip-flops in my carry on.

Oh pish that's like saying a haircut is haircut... after having an $8 cut and receiving no attention in J, I had no choice but to get a $150 haircut before the return trip. Apart from feeling mightly ripped off, I received no better treatment.

It might be because I was being a rude self indulgent prat..but gee I looked fancy.
