Brads photos show clearly that VA cater for all........even those who wear thongs in business class  !

Oh the ignamy :(, but perhaps in this case like attracts like? I don't often travel in J but even in zoo I wear something other than Japanese riding boots and I wouldn't consider them even remotely appropriate in J. Of course that is purely my thoughts and I would not wish to even pretend to suggest others should listen too intently to me, but it's just food for thought.......dress down your standards by all means but rightly or wrongly service may perhaps be taylored to match.

I certainly mean no insult (after all, I'm not upper class myself) but I have read a number of your posts Brad, where you bemoan poor service and attribute it to your age. Out of curiosity, try an experiment. Next time you fly J, try dressing more in keeping with the level of service you're expecting. I'd be curious of the outcome.

You know what swanning_it I do take insult to you little post. I am not ranting for the sake of it, there is flaws that need to be fixed. How dare you insult how I act or the way I dress or even the way I should be treated. You know my name, not my story. Every time I get onboard a flight I dress classy and comfortably and I look good and so does my family. I don't know what your problem is you may be jealous of me or you may be bored with your life. But as you say you fly mostly in economy so you can take your insults where they belong. I have taken the liberty to make a collage of photos I have taken since December showing that no I don't dress like a bogan.

swanning_it I wish you happy flying

So be it. I had no desire to upset you and I do apolgise for that. I also stated they were my thoughts, said aloud and they have not changed. Others wear thongs in J, I find it inappropriate....you don't. I've a feeling it has nothing to do with your age, you do. Fairly simple really, we disagree.

Talk about first world problems

Being platinum at 23, I also have recieved both fantastic service and poor service. Whilst I do believe that age is a factor in service quality on some occasions, I believe that overall it really comes down to the training and professionalism of the flight attendants.

I say for certain that I have travelled home from BNE in J wearing beach gear (t-shirt, shorts and thongs - having come to the airport directly from Mooloolaba) and recieved excellent service from the crew. ;)

I'm quite sure VA would not have a "Treat yobs with contempt befitting" policy, but subliminal casting will from time to time occur. I do not for one minute suggest this is the way it should be, just the way it is. Some recognise that and some don't, but assuming age is the only contributing factor would be incorrect in many cases (not all).

I have a view (previously noted) about dress standards in flight. Some here will agree, some won't. I really don't see the issue and as long as I don't get tinea ridden toes shoved around the window and under my armpits (like what happened to my daughter at Christmas) I really couldn't care less who wears thongs.....I just personally disagree with the appropriateness of the choice.

I am unsure of Brad's age, but I am under 20 and am platinum, and I have also noticed no difference whether in business attire or casual clothes.

I find it disturbing that Brad seems to find he is served last pretty consistently, and good on him for following it up.

Generally i'm on an A330 ex PER, but even on the 737's, I am usually in 2A, and I get served before 2C, 2D, 2F.

On the 737 service there was only one time that row 2 got served first than row 1 which I was in, they couple did have Platinum status over a silver which I had at the time so I though it was fair at that time. But then again if Brad has had experiences where he was being served last constantly then him bringing that up with VA is a great way to give them feedback, As long as the crew show respect and serve in a professional manner then im fine with the service.

From my previous J experiences crew were fantastic, from service through to having chats with J pax. I've yet to experience with crew who look down upon young flyers and the day I do, VA will be receiving negative comments of the particular crew member.

Re: Virgin Australia Business Class Catering - Service, Meal times, Menus

I fly for leisure not business and I dress appropriately for flying in and out of tourist town Cairns. If I was flying Between Sydney and Melbourne etc I would dress accordingly. When the trolley serves 1A, 1C, 2A, 2C, 2D and 2F then comes back to give you what ever is left it does make you feel bad. Being platinum with QF at 14 I was treat so much better. Being platinum and gold at 17 with VA sometimes I feel that they see it as a joke and sometime it's i am treated like royalty.

Re: Virgin Australia Business Class Catering - Service, Meal times, Menus

I shall just point out that there is no defined standard of dress for a person wishing to travel in Business Class other than those required by the airline to actually board their aircraft. If someone desires to travel in Business wearing shorts and thongs and are paying the relevant fare for that cabin they have every right to expect the same standard of service received by every other passenger in that same cabin.

Re: Virgin Australia Business Class Catering - Service, Meal times, Menus

Simple stuff but I've always found that smiling and being friendly to the FA's and the CSM on any airline usually results in more attentive service than when one acts in a grumpy or surly. VA no different. We are all human as it is said.

Re: Virgin Australia Business Class Catering - Service, Meal times, Menus

This thread has turned really nasty, really quickly and is the exact opposite of what AFF is about.

For the record, I am 29, look younger, and have flown VA dom J several times in casual clothes (shorts and t-shirt but I draw the line at thongs), as I only fly for leisure and it has been particularly hot on those days (mid-30s at both the origin and destination). Yes I got strange looks when they saw my boarding pass but most of the times I have received the same service as someone dressed formally. I couldn't give a rats a*se if the crew think I shouldn't be in J or hold SG because of my age or appearance. If they want a job where they can judge rather than serve perhaps they should be looking for a job on X Factor or The Voice.

personally I dont give a rats how you dress or look....I get the 'full picture' by the ACTIONS AND WORDS of a person!!.. ALSO the old adage 'you GET as good as you GIVE', MIGHT come into play..(ALSO WORKS BOTH WAYS)

Re: Virgin Australia Business Class Catering - Service, Meal times, Menus

They say "don't judge a book by it's cover" but I also believe that people will hold prejudices of what they believe is the right thing to do just like most hang out with like minded people.

e.g. If I was an airline employee and I had a choice of who to give an op-up then I would give it to the well dressed person any day over the person wearing t-shirt, thongs and t-shirt. Discrimination? Not when i do not have to provide a reason. Just as well I am not an airline employee....

I tend to believe more in dressing for comfort rather than to impress is the way to go on flights. My wife always wears her Havianas with tracksuit pants when boarding because she likes to put on thick socks as her feet get cold. We always fly J domestically and I don't think because she dresses down that the service she receives is in any way lesser than if she dressed up.

I agree with JohnK that attitude and friendliness goes along with with FA service. A quick polite chat and a joke has always gone a long way in my limited experience.
