QF's Asia announcement

I think not!

Have you flown on Jetstar Asia? It's really not that bad, as far as LCC's go and it does give people alternatives. Throw in a plus bundles, you get pts/scs + meal and what you have in product terms, is not too different to a QF 737 domestic services, just without IFE.

And without lounge access should it be closed at the time you wish to depart, will be interesting to see the lounge times now!

Not sure what equipment will be in use for the Sydney flight but its possible Brisbane will have the only PE service to SIN.

Looks like its A333 under QF81 coding, so Melbourne will have a two class 744 and BNE will be the only PE service to SIN assuming the 744 stays on that route.

IMHO I think they went out with this announcement far too early, they should have sorted out the details about the broadening of ties with CX, JAL, 9W, MU etc first so at least we would have some certainty around bookings to greater Asia destinations.

Also 2016 is far too far away for those other destinations, either the 787 orders need to be brought forward or they should source 777's or more A330's.

That may be fine to certain destinations, but when you have a new airline partner who you sponsored into your alliance who flies direct to KUL, yet incentivise your FF members to instead fly Australia-SIN-KUL (with the second leg on 3K) or ADL-SYD-SIN-KUL (for those living in Adelaide)...

I for one won't be letting the QFF tail wag my dog.

A new destination - Kuala Lumpur - available to Qantas customers via the Qantas - Emirates network

I think this line is ominous for QF's future in Oneworld. MH only joined up last week - this line is a real slap in the face for them.

I love this quote: "The maturing Jetstar network gives travellers another set of alternatives once they land in Asia."

I think not!

Something like a maturing cheese and giving off a strong odour.
Definitely looking like an enhancement to me.As a non QFF OW flyer the EK codeshares mean nothing.Any BNE-SIN flights will be on SQ courtesy of Amex.
And as a frequent user of circle asia fares QF will become even less relevant.Even out of SYD I am already switching to CX and JAL.

Interesting.

Wonder how long it'll be until they close the QF lounge at PER, doesn't make much sense keeping it open for a single flight.
Passengers could use the EK or MH lounges instead, I guess.

Air NZ use the QF Lounge in Perth, so they'd need to find somewhere else (maybe SQ).....

QF booking engine appears to be showing the QF5 will still fly SYD-SIN, then turn around and fly the QF6 SIN-SYD.

I thought QF were incentivising those who live in ADL to make the switch to the dark side (SQ/VA/NZ alliance).... ;)

In reality, what we're seeing is QF pursuing the VA strategy, valuing bilateral arrangements (with EK, 3K/JQ, MU, 9W and AA ) over the oneworld alliance. It will be interesting to see how BA choses to play the game as the new timings effectively kill reasonably timed single stop connections to BA SIN-LHR services from PER, MEL & BNE, and do kill single stops from ADL. I realise JSA was ending, but IIRC, previous communication was that codeshares would continue.

Would be interesting to have the airline which uses a foreign airline's lounge in its home country!

QF is now #11 in the list of airlines by the number of international seats out of PER.
SQ, EK, CX, MH, GA, NZ, JQ, QZ, TG and D7 all have more seats.
Even QR and SA have only slightly fewer seats.

I see also dropping Premium Economy Melbourne to Singapore as well QF35/36.

I would assume that once the international A330's are renovated we will see Premium Economy added. The bum's on seats are paying more per square foot than economy and business.

Interesting ... looks like they are doing the SYD flights first.

A work associate who I helped with an XASA MEL-xSYD-(QF127)-HKG late last year for April received an email today with a change booting him to the direct QF29 flight.

With this the notified scheduled arrival in HKG has changed from 5:30pm (QF127) to 9:00pm (QF29)- he was annoyed the much later arrival showing as it would muck up some plans he had for that evening.

I showed him the ASX .pdf and explained he will be moved again to a 5:10pm arrival and he is much happier.

Also qantas have published the information on their agents site: Latest Qantas News

curious why they need to change the QF127 asa?? the MEL-SYD 0600 flight arrives 0725 which connects with the retimed 127 at 0955. I am doing the same flight but connecting up from melbourne (separate tickets though but all on QF). The only thing I got was the re-timing notification (which is all I'd expect on two tickets - but it's certainly an easy connection... fingers crossed/touch wood...)

I doubt it, I suspect QD35/36 is the new home of OJD!

another +1 to the PER QFi experience..........or lack thereof..........

I was on the verge of culling VA and putting the majority of flights back to QF as well......time for yet another rethink.......

Saying that, what do you have out of PER with VA directly? DPS and HKT on a 737?

I guess they might close the Qantas Club in Per international.

It will be interesting to see as there's Emirates and Malaysian lounges in the International Terminal as well.
