I have this card and also the Jetstar card (although will soon cancel the Jetstar card). This has caused no end of problems with my internet banking. They sent me a letter with the access code for the Macquarie card being the same as the Jetstar card. But apparently this has caused neither to work. It has been with their IT department for over a week now and they can't fix it. Why they can't just cancel the access number and give me two separate new numbers I will never know.

On the positive side, the bonus points are no problems. My first statement month for Macquarie has just finished (I had to get my balance by ringing because couldn't see online) and I put through about $2.5K and I have 3.5K points come onto my statement (which would be right there were a couple of big work items that weren't petrol, groceries, utilities, plus my house insurance). Plus I got 25 points listed separately from when I selected a seat for my upcoming A380 flight.

They are going to email me a statement so when I have that I will check items off to see all bonuses have come through.

Have now got my statement (through an email see above for why I couldn't log in) and have check and all appears to be fine. Ending balance was $2300 with $321 of the spend on petrol and supermarkets (no utilities), plus $25 on Qantas and total points earn 3612.

The $35 on Jetstar (courtesy Tiger price beat) did not attract bonus points.

As I am not a big spender on groceries, no do we use a lot of power, plus the fact I am now going to be overseas for 5 weeks of the 6 months, I doubt I will get close to $5000 in eligible bonus spend. Should have 2 x quarterly utilities bills in there.

Should add the statement didn't specifically list the bonus items, I had to do the calculation myself.

As promised - for one single transaction ! (5:1 earn rate).

Been away the last few weeks in Saigon and Paris.

So will make it work from now on ... until $5,000 or a bit more, I guess

Keep your mind focused at the check out / on paying bills: which card to use now ??

Fersea, I had the same problem with same code for the two cards. They gave me a new access code for the visa and the problem was fixed. It took them more than a month to sort it out though.

As no mention at the start of application?
Does the online required before 31st count towards getting bonus points?

LAST PAGE on application and still no FREE FOR FIRST YEAR?

I called card services and they are adamant that if you did not receive email then you will not get Free for first year and bonus points???
I asked about aplying or having email sent to me and they stated offer is not avaialble on website site so not granted....WTF????

I had received the 5:1 earn rate from the first statement as promised.

And no fee at all (usu it is there with the first statement).

Be super quick though, you have only a few days !

The website link still states free 1st year - as of today (Tuesday 29th).

There is no annual fee with my (and others') first statement.

I'd suggest you capture & save the link above as proof of their offer.

The way I read it, you need to be approved by 31st.

They were slow with my (and others here) application so I doubt you can make the deadline. Took them about 5-7 working days in my case to get approval.

However, it's worth trying - with all info at fingertips: ATP tax returns etc.....

They had now extended the deadline to Feb 28th.

You should have no problem with application.

I'd suggest you capture the screen for your own benefits.

"Supermarket" purchases are eligible.

Whether that includes gift cards purchased inside Coles or not I have not tested.

If you do test, let us know the results.

I have quite a few gift cards on hand already.
