I am flying HNL-AKL-BNE on Saturday.
Can I buy my Jack Daniels in HNL and pack in my luggage or will Customs not approve?
JD is $10 a bottle cheaper in ABC than AKL dutyfree prices?

Customs won't know unless the bottle breaks open....

Which reminds me of a story (sorry a little OT) About 7 years ago I had a bottle of port in my cabin baggage (a gift for my father) As I was only going for the weekend. (OOL) I didn't have a lot of stuff in my bag and when I was dropped off out the front at Sydney T2 I accidentally tipped by bag over. It didn't fall far and I din't think twice about it. I pick it up by the handle and proceeded to check-in When lining up I had a tap on the shoulder and the chap behind me pointed out a brown liquid coming out of my bag. When I looked back there was a trail from the front kerb all the way across the terminal to the check-in desk. It was funny and embarrassing at the same time..... what a mess.:)

Checked baggage is fine, just ensure it is properly protected against breakage.

Won't be allowed in carry-on as you have an International-International connection at AKL.

Or they search the bag.

2.25L is the limit you are allowed in without risking a fine (if you don't declare) and paying duty.

As long as it isn't a huge bottle ie bigger that 2.25L (do they make them that big?) or you are getting other liquor you will be OK

Yep they do... 4.5L cradle packs are common. But that's the largest "consumer" size, I believe you can actually get casks/kegs of the stuff as well if you're a pub/club.

Those XRay machines are real nosey, I would not advise going over the limit, I have not done so for some time since I have a warning on my file, apparently opened bottles still count .

In that case it would be find the plane?, if you got stuck into the 4.5

Title of this thread is 'Duty free into Australia' so I hope I can ask a question irrelevant to OP?

SIN duty free store staff tell me Australia is only country which requires duty free alcohol to be collected on boarding flight and cannot be carried away by purchasing pax from Duty Free store?

Reason?

Because we don't trust SIN airport security and require a secondary inspection.
At HKG means you cannot buy liquids at all.

Actually its all about supporting the monopoly certain duty free stores have

I have seen it on AA ex MIA for LATAM flights.

The same happens at DFW for QF8.

The Australian government needs to butt out and stop doing it's best to protect the duty free monopoly in Australia....

Thanks, I have no intention of cheating the taxman...just not worth it but the price difference between retail here and DF in Aust is staggering.

Yes, I belong to DFS NZ and that that was their difference . About $15.00 a bottle in Aust.
