Qantas to upgrade business class sleep experience

Sorry to get slightly on topic, but would the chauffeur pick ups for flights over 12 hours include connections? I.e. MEL-SIN-LHR is over 12, but the first leg isn't. I know this is moot after QF moves to DXB though.

Why, because iCan.

I have a large collection of J pyjamas (even have a couple of F), none of them purchased from ebay. I've even been known to wear the J pyjama bottoms in whY or whY+ because they are light, comfortable and don't take up a lot of room in my carry on.

Thankfully I don't have to wear them in whY or whY+ but I do wear them on other carriers who don't provide them in J (in fact I think QF are the only ones who do?) for exactly the same reasons as you - light, comfortable and additionally for me as they are free they are essentially disposable - if my bags start getting too full with papers when travelling I can dump them and not feel like I have lost anything.

I was wondering the same for BNE-SYD-LAX as first leg is dom and very short. My guess is still yes but maybe they can be pedantic.

Yes, you're in luck. The media release states:

Travellers connecting via a domestic flight from Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, Perth, Sydney or Melbourne to an eligible Qantas international flight will have access to Chauffeur Drive. The offer also extends to Qantas customers travelling from Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington to Australia to connect to an eligible Qantas international flight.

Excellent news - especially or those of us who don't live in SYD! I would imagine both flights would need to be on the same ticket?

According to Qantas' press release, the chauffeur service will be offered to pax:
  1. Flying on a Qantas international service greater than 12 hours in duration
  2. Connecting via an Australian domestic flight (from select cities only) to an international gateway, then departing on a flight as in (1)
  3. Connecting from New Zealand via a Trans-Tasman flight to an Australian international gateway, then departing on a flight as in (1)

So BNE-SYD-LAX would most likely qualify. That said, if BNE-SYD and SYD-LAX were on separate itineraries, then I'd hope that QF are smart enough to still let you book the chauffeur.

For MEL-SIN-LHR, I suppose one should be able to argue that it should qualify, particularly if you bought the ticket as MEL-LHR. That said, this new Qantas Chauffeur service is due to start in April 2013, the same time as the flights will be realigned via DXB, so the point is likely moot.

Very good news indeed - saves about $260 to and from SYD. Shame it's not happening by Dec like the mattresses

...and back on topic, the amenity kit "bags" look a bit like the BA ones.

From the previews on AusBT, I'm not sure I like them! They look like pencil cases!

It does kind of remind me of the newest Elemis BA J bags, or even the UA J kits, but the latter ones are made of some one ply mesh material - really dumb.

These QF ones don't look so good at all. These pouches have no body at all - just a flat zip case. The Kate Spade pouch exhibits anything but femininity - looks quite trashy, actually. I'm not sure any woman will be caught dead even using it to put her makeup in it later....

I don't care what people say about the Florence Broadhurst bags or the Marc Newson zip kit bags (or hard shell flat zip cases) that preceded the FB ones, but they look so much better than these ones.

Sounds good, hopefully you can book it from a hotel to SYD :)

Why wouldn't you be able to? Would seem quite odd if you couldn't do that (not everyone is travelling from their home to the airport).

Actually, what I'm more 'concerned' about (in a sense) is what about when you're origin is not Australia. For example,
  • LHR-DXB-SYD on QF ticket operated by QF: I assume this qualifies for Chauffeur service? (How is this interpreted in the rules?)
  • CDG-DXB-SYD on QF ticket operated by EK then QF: I assume this qualifies, but mainly only because this is already covered in EK's rules. That said, if you booked it as a QF ticket even though it's an EK operated flight, does it qualify due to EK's rules, or QF's rules... then furthermore, who do you call to arrange the car service - EK or QF?
  • Assuming QF do not finish their BA connecting service flights before this service starts, then something like AMS-LHR-DXB-SYD on QF ticket operated by BA then QF: Does this qualify for car service in AMS or not?
  • I should correct my post above, but it seems not all domestic flights connecting to international gateways qualify for chauffeur service. I wonder if this is due to there being no such service in those towns or cities. For example, I'm sure it might be difficult to find a chauffeur service in Gladstone or Kalgoorlie, though that said there is the glaring omission of Gold Coast, Darwin and Cairns (I'm sure those cities must have luxury car services somewhere in them...)

I'm counting on getting chauffeur service from LAX for my April flight to SYD. Or will it only be on routes they share with EK?

So you can't buy duty free, and you can't go to the toilet because of the massive queues? Don't worry! you can now just sleep over it!

Oh this sounds terrific!

Combined with the tie-up with EK & chauffeur service (which I love) I think that QF are making some good moves. I think that QF is starting to justify the huge price difference between their J product and the competition. Hopefully this will all work towards bring QFi back into the black.

For all the bagging that AJ receives on this forum, I think that he deserves a thumbs up on this from me!

I agree it's a step in the right direction, sure!

But customers flying on a QF A380 one way in J and then an EK A380 in J...

In future they will be booking EK.....

Will hopefully see some of the enhancements on our trip to Europe for Christmas and the chauffeur sounds good for our trip next year!
