It seems this deal removes Qantas as a viable option to Europe for those who have status with a OW partner other than QF and want to make use of that status. Couple that with my dislike of DXB airport at the best of times and this arrangement is a backward step in my opinion.

Why? You can still use your one world status to fly to LHR, exactly just like now. So what has changed besides an airport you don't like

QF was never a viable option to Europe, only destination was FRA.
If you have other OW status ex-Aus, guess you fly CX.

If you used to previously fly to LHR then BA back into EUR you will still be able to do this via BKK, SIN, HKG on QF/BA/CX or via DXB on QF metal.

So apart from some connection times that may not line up as perfectly as the current thru services at SIN(and previously BKK), don;t see the change for OW elites.... however some big positives for QF elites

All this means for OW is that there's now more variety in the Oz-Europe route besides the usual SIN/BKK/HKG. Don't like DXB? Go pick another port.

Once MH become part of OW (end Q1 2013), that will be another option via KUL. Can't remember all of MH's European destinations of the top of my head tho...

Not many really, IST, AMS, CDG, FRA, LHR

And I will wait until details of the proposed EK and AA codeshare arrangement are announced before further commenting.

No option to fly Qantas via BKK/SIN/HKG. I guess BKK stopped a while back but the other 2 are still an option.

Yes there other options but CX, BA and MH are not Qantas....

This thread is about what this means for ow status pax, and as far as they are concerned they can travel via any of those ports with status from australia.

Errr ! Why
Qantas now fly to LHR from Aust with a fuel top up and passenger unloading loading in Asia
Qantas will fly to LHR from Aust with a fuel top up and passenger unloading loading in Dubai after April 2013
If you have AA or BA or CX status what is the difference ?
It will be still be a QF aircraft & QF flight number

The EK deal will effect some people that get on QF in Asia and those who use the FRA service. But FRA is hardly a popular route.

If passengers only went to airports they like (or not dislike) very few would go to USA via LAX. Who likes LAX as an airport ? Airports are not destinations: they are transport transit centers (morphing into shopping centers)

Which is interesting but of little relevance to the statement made in the OP about the viability of getting to europe on QF for those with oneworld status. The question therefore remains for the OP to justify their statement because there is just about nothing to support it.

Not on Qantas....

I have no issue with LAX. I have no issue with LHR.

Airports are not just transits for various reasons. If something happens and one is stuck there for 1 or 2 days then it can be a problem.

If someone (not Qantas Emerald) wants to get to Europe on Qantas via BKK/SIN/HKG now can't. Say they want to stop in BKK for 1-2 days before and after. Now they can't.

The sky is not falling but what happens when Qantas decides they no longer want to fly to SE Asia and leave it to Jetstar. It is still an aircraft. Right?

Really wish you would read the OP again. It talks about getting to Europe. It talks about qantas as a viable option for getting to Europe. Exactly what has change for getting to Europe on Qantas. Hint Asia has just about nothing to do with the viability of qantas for getting to Europe.

That has absolutely nothing to do with the viability of getting to Europe. The OP said nothing about going via Asia.

Am I some sort of idiot? I have read the OP. You and dazz81 need to read the OP before attacking my opinion and comments in this thread.

The OP is concerned this merger has removed Qantas as a vialble option to Europe. My take on that is that we have now lost 2 transits to LHR and Europe which were SIN/HKG. Before that we also had BKK.

And the OP has also mentioned they have no desire to travel via DXB. Neither do I.

My comments are very relevant or do you think I should just shut up while you guys high five each other on this tie up?

There are still 2 transits to Europe DXB/HKG. Plus there is still BKK and SIN on BA. Qantas still fly mostly to LHR. Qantas is still just as viable to Europe.

The OP said they don't like DXB. Their and your personal preferences do not make QF unviable for Oneworld status passenger. It only makes it unviable for the the OP and you.

The question remains why is it unviable for oneworld status passenger. (as opposed to just you or the OP)

Pretty sure it has to be BA metal from HKG as well.

In terms of this thread, all that has been lost for a OW member wanting to travel to Europe is the FRA service, and perhaps some stopover options in SIN.

Not wanting to transit Dubai is a separate issue.
