Any Y class pax they take a liking to.
LOL! Sounds like some African airports I have flown into - don't worry about the landing, just worry about the lions when you get off the plane!

I guess now that there is a part QF metal option that is one stop to continental Europe there may be a lot more demand for the seats on the two QF A380's to DXB - is there a possibility that there won't be enough seats on those 2x A380's from SYD/MEL - DXB? (and likewise will they be flying DXB-LHR half empty as a lot of pax got off at DXB and transferred to a EK flight to the continent/Africa/other Middle East destination?). There may well be a demand for QF to run A330-300's to DXB from PER/BNE - hopefully they have left room in the agreement for that rather than just limiting themselves to 2 flights to DXB per day out of SYD/MEL.
They will take passengers from the EK flights arriving from BNE ADL and PER I think..

Well, Florence and I have never been to Dubai and are very much looking forward to having a walk around the streets.

EH

Just make sure you don't get too affectionate whilst you are walking around. You can get booked for that.

I suppose that shouldn't be too difficult, right? ;) :p  (Just kidding...)

Not entirely sure just how valuable that car transfer will be in Venice.

eek! I'd hate a 6am departure to LHR! no F lounge time!

That would hurt indeed. The F Lounge would have to open at 3 am or so. Maybe they can convert it into an airside hotel with slumberettes. Just kidding. ;)

I'm actually liking the return journeys timing (i.e. max 7 hour flight to DXB, then 11-13 hour flight back to Australia). Even if the transit in DXB is at silly hours, at least you have time to rest on the long flight back to Australia. When these flights went via SIN, the last flight to Australia was a sub-8 hour short overnighter - it felt almost like a red-eye.

That said, I'm not sure what specific timings I would prefer if I flew the new QF1 / QF9 and QF2 / QF10.

Whilst I agree with you completely I do have to stand up for their right to be ignorant if they so desire :!:

The best way past their ignorance is to take each incorrect statement and explain why it is wrong and what is the correct answer.

When you tell someone what is the correct answer, how can they retain the right to ignorance?

Who carries their medications in checked luggage? Only if they're not essential, which is not the case for most people.

The only "medication" I may carry around is regular Paracetamol, and possibly multi-vitamins and fish oil capsules. Do I have to ditch these?

Some others who may carry sleeping tablets or anti-histamines (e.g. Phenergen) may have trouble, I guess, even though they are over the counter meds.

The point I was trying to make in my OP is that I think a significant no. of travellers (presumably those less travelled and exposed to the world and other cultures) will not want to transit through or stopover in DXb (for actual or preceived concerns), and I assume QF have taken this into account with their tie up with EK.

I don't know if QF have been that sharp. All they probably perceived was (a) EK is a successful carrier and carries several Aussies on its services via DXB, and (b) VA/EY is an example of a successful partnership with a Middle Eastern carrier, so people have welcomed EY, why not EK. (Yes, the Abu Dhabi Emirate is different to the Dubai Emirate, but....)

From Wikipedia (so not necessarily accurate), A330-300 full range is 13,430km (fully loaded)...

Whilst a 333 might be nice, as markis10 said the winds will probably kill that plan.

Moreover, who really wants plain 2-class 333s (with Skybed Mk I) for 12-14 hours? LX have some nice 333s, but they don't have W class admittedly.

Really cool to see QF start Chauffeur Drive. That said, some country towns (e.g. consider the press release flippant remark "Longreach to Lisbon") may not have luxury vehicles there - what's the point? :)

Of course, really hoping that Chauffeur Drive will apply to award tickets! Not sure how EK deal with this.

I believe EY have an exact same service offered. Have many VA members here taken advantage of such services? (Assumed only possible if booking on the EY code and not the VA code?)

They'd might have to fight the economy passenger's falcon. Maybe they could eat any comfort animals or lap dogs (except those aren't allowed)

This is bloody funny, but as they have the rules in place my mind boggles that they actually have demand for this.

SWMBO is running thick and fast on this one. She says:

I can't believe they had a meeting to write policy. They sent around a memo! Is there someone at the gate checking said bird is a falcon? Can I get away with a hawk? I guess a wedge tail eagle would be pushing it.

She's perplexed. But apparently we're getting a falcon. ;)

Apparently they can only carry 15 falcons onboard one flight.

Emirates SkyCargo » Products and Solutions » Special Cargo » Live Animals
EK-03 Emirates will accept the following animals in cabin:
  • Falcons - only on Pakistan routes. Operator's prior approval is required if the number of falcons to be carried in cabin exceeds 15 heads or if falcons are required to be transported in the passenger cabin on other than Pakistan routes;

Reminds me of the babies being bumped off overbooked flights back in 2009.

And you might be able to take a falcon on a non Pakistan route.

Note that more than 15 falcons only needs prior approval of the operator - it is not prohibited.

Looks like time to buy a cast of Falcons

Now that you mention something about special cargo, I'm hoping that EK are careful about baggage around the Hajj times.

I remember flying MH and on a domestic sector with them, my luggage from the international flight I'd just connected from was "delayed" from being carried on the same flight as me because the plane was overloaded. (My luggage, and another Australian's, had to be carried on the next flight).

Turns out that my flight was full of people back from the Hajj; they had all received included extra baggage allowances for special religious artifacts (e.g. some sort of holy water, I assume special clothes for the pilgrimage). Naturally that's what took up all the extra weight.

Agree... and it wasn't that long ago that QF had 4 birds going to LHR and 1 to FRA so it makes sense to me.

Just make sure you have the neccessary passports for each of the birds:

In Pakistan, a hunt for the million-dollar falcons - The Washington Post
Falcons in the UAE are issued passports to combat illegal trading and smuggling of the birds. They are in high demand in the region because they are used in the centuries-old sport of falconry, which is popular in the Middle East.

Maybe you get the cast from the Falcon Hospital:

This would be water from the Zam Zam well at Makkah Zamzam Well - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I doubt it would be religious clothing. Women wear a simple Hijab or Niqab, and men wear two terry cloth towels with no stitching.

That said, I have been on BA flights during Umrah and Hajj to JED. I'd be more concerned with receiving old Club World than lost luggage.

I'm so relieved I can take both the kids and a falcon on holidays. Ford will be ecstatic at the new business potential. I'd say JAL will have to accelerate their Camry carry on allowance plans to stay competitive. ;)

One would have to think that if EK are going to run three flights a day including an A380 from Perth then surely QF could be bothered to put an A320 on from Perth and fill it with Pax that can connect with QF1/9 or transfer to an EK flight to the continent or Africa or the Middle East. But then again it is Perth which is a city that QFi forgot about years ago.

PER-DXB is a tad far for a 320;)

Looks like we are right royally stuffed out of Perth then unless they want to run a 747 up to DXB or they have something else up their sleeve.
