Paid for a business upgrade but got no SC

Paid upgrade to J - no Cabin Bonus & additional status credits?

Just back from a trip to Jakarta on QF42 - purchased ticket in Y but upgrade to J on the return flight for US$350 (not a bad deal, was offered at Jakarta airport during check-in).

The flight just posted on my account - the upgrade reference is noted however both points and SCs are the same as my first leg in Y... I was under the impression that if the upgrade to J is paid (rather than using points) then I would accrue points and SCs as per J class - isn't this the case?

There is another thread on this, and it seems this is the case. Perhaps you need to pay the full fare difference to upgrade to the new class. I haven't found a rule one way or the other on it.

How much was the upgrade, if you don't mind me asking.

Upgrade was US$350 - weird they don't spell out the "no additional points / SCs" for paid upgrade... as ultimately I did pay for my J seat!
I may try to call them and argue my case :)

You paid for an upgrade, not a J fare.

It generally depends upon the booking class they upgraded you to.

U would earn nothing in addition to the original booking.

J, I, C & D could have earned as for business class.

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

U can earn if it's a JASA. I would call and ask - worst at can happen is they SYD "no", but they may fix just lik any people report JASA posts as zero SC. It would seem the computer systems think it was an op-up. I wonder if the $350 went to QF or to the check-in agent's slush fund?

It was processed as an Upgrade (similar to a points upgrade, or ODU), as noted by the reference to the Upgrade in the OP's activity. I don't think these things ever post in anything other than the original class.

As for NM's comment about the slush fund, I think the fact that it has posted as an upgrade would indicate that it has been processed in the QF system, and there'd be a record in the system about how much QF got for it.

Re: Paid upgrade to J - no Cabin Bonus & additional status credits?

These upgrades are a cabin upgrade rather than a fare upgrade meaning that the flight will earn at the original fare class rate.

Red Roo, are these cabin upgrades new? Are they planned to be rolled out across the network and if so do you have any per sector pricing?

I'm sure that a lot of AFFers would be interested in filling the empty business cabins....

I posted same last week after my upgrade from narita. Like i said before, there T&Cs are okay and are entitled to have it the way they want but how about making the customer aware of it at time of purchasing the upgrade? instead of having to ask people on a public forum. Infact i would think if somebody challenged Q they may have a battle as its as its as clear as mud. On the other side of the coin good on Q for offering this on selected routes it was appreciated on my recent flight.

Been around since Feb on various routes, I have merged two threads as they are talking about the same thing, earlier posts on the original thread give more details as to what the conditions are!

QF Airport Upgrades

Thought it might be useful to have a thread on this as there doesn't appear to be any dedicated to date..

HKG-SYD Discount Y to J "Airport Upgrade" COST: $6,500(HKD)

Some key points:

-No signage anywhere, had to try asking a few different ways... (no idea at first with 'Paid Upgrade' but 'Airport Upgrade' appeared to be correct the terminology here.
-Paid by credit card (manual auths slip!)
-Given a 'Misc Charges' 081 Ticket for receipt (very retro!)
-No Pts / SCs (Looked to have gone into the Upgrade Fare Bucket)

All in all pretty good value, J on this sector retails for $20k each way on a return or $30k one-way.

Re: QF Airport Upgrades

6500HKD = 832AUD at today's exchange rate. Points upgrade would have been 40000 points.

Therefore, you are paying about 83200/40000 = 2.08 cents/point.

They are certainly not giving the upgrade away at that rate.

Re: QF Airport Upgrades

what desk did you ask? regular check in counter or ticketing desk somewhere in the airport?

Re: QF Airport Upgrades

Nor should they, one of the better things about QF, in my opinion, is that premium cabins are actually premium.

Note: I barely ever fly J/F but I appreciate that anyway.

Non upgradeable fare class though

Re: QF Airport Upgrades

I actually noticed a sign at AKL behind the checkin desk advertising paid upgrades, it was turned away so i couldn't see the details, but seems like it is done occasionally.

Re: QF Airport Upgrades

I certainly hope they only offer this AFTER they have fulfilled all the points upgrade requests...!

It seems to be a very manual process that only starts at T-3 to the flight so I doubt it would impact upgrade requests (unless they have reduced the overall number of points upgrades on offer in the hope of attracting more cash...)
