Paid at check in for an upgrade from a cheapy to business at NRT but didn't recieve any extra SC! It notes the upgrade on my statement but no extra SC or cabin bonus. Is this normal?

You should receive SC and points for the paid class (ie the cheapie!)

I did recieve 35 SC for the cheapie but nothing for the extra $ I paid.

Are you talking Qantas, and paid a fare difference to upgrade?
Or is this Jetstar?

A points upgrade would just be the cheapie rate, so it may depend on how it was processed...

Are we talking about QF or JAL or even Jet*?

How long have QF been offering "pay at checkin" upgrades? New to me. If this is correct, whats the cost?

It's been happening at 'selected' routes for a while now, close to a year? While I haven't seen the sign for the NRT route, the sign I've seen for TT routes specifically said no extra SC's. You're just buying a seat in J and the service with it, not even lounge access, at least that was the impression I got.

I think this has been discussed a bit here or on FT.

Upgraded SC etc are not applicable. As far as cost goes, SGD$1200 SIN LHR

Small set of conditions:

  1. Any fare class
  2. Cost $450NZD
  3. No Business Class luggage allowance
  4. No Business Class special meals but yes to regular J catering
  5. Remains in the original fare class so not FFP or SC for J:(

.

I am surprised that Qantas is offering cheap(ish) cash upgrades to business class.

Hello, I have never posted before. Only travel sometimes for leisure, not for business but year before last managed to get enough sc for upgrade to Silver. This expires end Sep and still need 190 sc to retain Silver.

My question is - on my recent trip to Sydney from Adel there was an option to upgrade (I think to Business) for 12,000 ff points and wondering if I had taken that offer would I have earned sc and points at Business rate? I can see from discussion
that does not happen if paid at airport.

no

My pleasure. I am just getting into all this stuff too. This site is very helpful. The BIG win is the "any seat award" scheme. Look at the threads here. It takes a bit of concentration and understanding but once you "get it", you'll never look back. Enjoy

No, you only earn points at the rate the original fare was purchased at. And now it seems like Paid ODU's will only earn at the rate which the original fare was entitled to earn. In short, the only way you can earn SC's and FFPoints at full business class rate is to through an JASA, buying a business class ticket, or paying for the full fare difference from Y/Y+ to J before travel.

The answer is generally no SCs or QFF points received for point upgrades or award flights expect for Any Seat awards.

Occassionally though some of these slip through the cracks and SCs and/or QFF points are received.
