Scoot off to a rocky start with 100% not on time record.

Yeah looks like the 400 is accurate. Emirates fit 350 seats into their 2 class 772s. So thinking about it now it is not that much of a stretch (or should that be a cram) to fit 400 in a 772 especially as Scoot have removed a galley.

But then for $179 one way (or less than $100 one way with specials before), what else does everyone want?

Maybe there should be a new website called cheapskatesfrequentflyer[dot]com[dot]au and they will rave about how cheap Scott/AirAsia/J*/RyanAir are and whinge about Qantas/Singapore/Cathay etc charging so much for some food and TV which you can download off internet for "free".

Turns out there was a medical issue and a plane issue!

TZ CEO Campbell Wilson told ATW that the Boeing 777 Singapore (SIN)-Sydney (SYD) flight’s return to the bay was due to a coughpit advisory message regarding a pitot tube. “The particular message gave latitude for the captain to proceed with the flight or return for engineers to investigate, and Captain Rohan took the latter approach in keeping with Scoot’s safety philosophy,” Wilson said in a statement to ATW.
“Upon investigation the issue was quickly resolved and the aircraft cleared to operate.” Wilson said that such advisory messages are “not uncommon, with pitot tubes [they] are particularly susceptible especially if the aircraft has not flown for a few days. The pitot tube that was the subject of the advisory message has been replaced nevertheless,” he said.
Asked to explain the medical emergency, Wilson told ATW, “Whilst the aircraft was at the bay, a passenger feeling unwell asked to leave the aircraft. This necessitated locating and retrieving her checked luggage from the hold, which added around 31 minutes to the overall delay.”

"Scoot's safety philosophy"? How can an airline have developed a safety philosophy before it's inaugural flight has even taken off??

I cannot help but wonder if the pitot covers were on.....

Yeah it can, (a maybe not too relevant example is "how does a new restaurant have a safety plan before they open?) but yes - does sound like spin.

I think you're getting confused between philosophy and culture. A safety culture takes time to develop. A philosophy can be there from day one. Philosophy - we will put safety first over cost. Culture - implementing the philosophy.

And the inaugural SIN OOL flight left an hour late last night.

If you don't expect much from LCC long-haul it can be fine.

I flew JQ OOL-KIX 2 years ago - was absolutely dreading it but it was perfectly fine. Okay seat, okay food, okay movies. For the 2-4-1 price we paid it was a great deal.

It was honestly better than some QFi flights Ive had (and paid a lot more for).

P6120311.JPG Just arrived at OOL. Traditional welcome bath and off to meet the hordes awaiting it.:D

Much better than the photo i got... And the shindig set up after arrivals looked pretty nice.
