Status Match for whole of 2012

There are a heap of catches including you must travel 30 flight segments or 25,000 miles in the first 90 days to keep the Platinum status. No thanks.

Title is somewhat misleading.
That Status Match* is open for all of 2012,

but as powervideo said lots of conditions, inc 25k for the top (well second top) tier.

Also, all the travel for the match has to be done on UA ; so useless unless you're going to be travelling on them to/within the US to achieve the match.

I have a one off, potentially *A trip, in planning for later this year. I guess I could do the match 1.5 months before that. (I haven't read the conditions so this is a wild guess)

Sent from my iPhone using Aust Freq Fly app so please excuse the lack of links.

I'm about to be doing regular Skyteam flights in J so have requested a Status Match with Delta Skymiles. There's no way I'll get even close to matching but sitting on Gold while I do my first few trips gives a handy extra bonus (as they give you the status, from the way I read it, while you're trying to match, then you drop if you don't hit it at which point I'll easily be silver and almost gold anyway!) ;)

This status match is valid for 90 days (without any flying), so it is useful if you're flying on a *A airline as a one-off.

But I'd heard you can simply match with ANZ AirPoints if you email the right person and that'll be for a year ;)

Yep. I did mine with Delta and my flights have just posted with my base miles, cabin bonus (150%) and the 'gold' bonus as well.

I may be wrong, but I thought the challenge match only gave you status on UA for the period of the challenge.

Ie. you only get the actual card, and *G status AFTER you complete the challenge.

I may be wrong.

No, you get an initial match and then have to complete the "task" to retain it: (United Airlines - MileagePlus Premier Status Match Challenge)
Program Details

Premier status match is only offered for MileagePlus Premier® Silver, Premier® Gold or Premier® Platinum levels*. If you meet the criteria to participate in the Premier status match offer, your account will be upgraded for 90 days to Premier Silver, Premier Gold or Premier Platinum status*, based on the level you hold in your current frequent flyer program. ...
This is different from the AAdvantage Gold/Platinum challenges where the task must be completed before status is upgraded.

Note that travel must be on UA/CO flight numbers AND metal.

I was matched in 2 business days. However, I was matched to Premier Gold, not Platinum (I'm Qantas Platinum FF).

Just tried and they rejected VA Platinum as well. Actually happy about this as after applying I realized I had made a tactical mistake. I do have an upcoming itinerary on United but it won't meet the criteria to keep matched platinum but it will for gold. As luck should have it I am Gold on Qantas so have now requested they match that instead. We'll see what happens.

For any Velocity Golds or Platinums declined a match, it was because their list of valid airlines had Virgin Blue on it, not Virgin Australia (it also has "Quantas"). Pointing out the rebranding was sufficient for them to match. Velocity Gold -> UA Silver, btw.
