Got a teaser email today advising that Rydges PriorityGuest is being revamped and relaunched next week.

Anyone heard any rumours?

With their recent enhancements, it will be Platinum discounts only applied to passing Eskimos being towed on sleds by a herd of elephants.

On the email it says "more choices, more rewards ...". At a guess it might mean you will be able to redeem the points on rewards other than hotel stays. Maybe you'll be able to spend points on flights. Or maybe some other hotel chain in joining up.

Gut feeling is they will drop the X sc / night scheme and move to a points / $ spent scheme...

I like the program the way that it is. If they cut the platinum benefits, I'll probably stop staying with them.

The hotels aren't that great, but I don't mind if it means a family weekend at the QT on the Gold Coast.... The QT's restaurants (and the 50% discount) make staying at the Eagle Hawk in Canberra worth the effort!

Well, apparently Rydges have changed their cancellation policy. Apparently since Monday the 26th all of the Rydges hotels require a 24 hour notice to cancel.

I can understand the reason, but it is one less reason to go out of my way to stay with Rydges.

Interesting - with most 'flexible' hotel bookings I make, the cancel policy varies with the rate type, property and perhaps even the phase of the moon.

It can be 6pm/4pm on day of arrival; 1, 2 or 3 days and even a week.

I always check this prior to booking.

Next week is taking a long time to get here....

I don't understand why they made an announcement that they were going to make an announcement. Why not just make the announcement when they are ready.

I have stayed at 2 rydges hotel in the last week and i wasn't offered a welcome drink at either. Perhaps that is one of the 'enhancements'

I've never been offered a welcome drink at any Rydges (two in Canberra plus Melbourne and Parramatta in the last year). I thought it might have to be something you have to ask for before they remember it is supposed to be offered to you.

I'm a bit concerned about the changes, the fifteen nights for a free night seemed fairly simple and straight forward (and given I only stay at Rydges when it is a pretty good deal I think it is fair enough), so a point per dollar scheme probably won't so good for me.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Pretty simple really - it's a defined benefit of being a PriorityGuest:
Manage your online profile Rydges Hotels & Resorts
A welcome back beverage on us, every stay

I have received them at many Rydges, but thinking back they have become rarer. I don't tend to remind them, really one free drink at the bar is pretty boring (and even though it's cheap to use my Plat card there for drinks, I find it a bit naff to be drinking at a hotel bar if staying by myself)

The new terms and condtions are now on the Rydges website. Terms & conditions - Priority Guest Rewards

There is a new membership tier - Gold, which requires 5 stays or 15 nghts. Base get 10 points per night, gold 15 and platinum 20. Still 150 points for a free night.

They seem to have removed the Government Rewards which gave 15% off rooms.

The worst thing is that you now have to be staying at a hotel to get the food and drink discount. Damn

On the plus side, it has been extended to include the Art Series hotels (but not the F&B discount).

So apart from gold... Nothing improved?, just degraded?

Btw the major thing that annoys me at the moment is that my old password doesn't work on the new site and although I've requested a new password twice the emails have not appeared.

Same problem here.

Rydges also haven't credited my last 3 stays. With the revamp the claim missing nights is gone too and they aren't responding tom emails.

I'll have to give them a call, but I keep forgetting!
